Odd, considering it is probably one of the least popular Suda 51 games. Still, I like the game so it would be interesting to see how it goes. Especially since the original was so short (only like 5-6 levels, can be beaten in a couple of hours).

I actually remember that game being popular in my area. I never played it, but heard people enjoyed it

I kinda hope they tweak it. Game was fun but fairly mediocre. I feel like they could improve it a lot with a full remake like this but they could also fuck up the fun parts so

I always thought it was just Xbox. I never knew I could've played it. I'm a fucking moron as usual. Oh well. Maybe I'll get it this time. I remember watching a few videos of it and thinking it was cool.

I would be very surprised if it wasn't on all platforms. Switch is the only one that might not get it, but even that would be shocking considering No More Heroes 3 was a Switch exclusive for over a year.

Is it? I'd argue it was one of his more popular games. Or at least one of the ones with the most mainstream awareness. I'd say No More Heroes is the only thing he's done that I've heard more general response to.

Then again, I think he's overrated as fuck, so I don't really follow his work all that closely. So maybe is fanbase is mostly hipsters who all love his more obscure stuff.

It had popularity in the cosplay scene (cheerleader with a giant chainsaw, how could it not?) and it inspired the look and presentation of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (James Gunn said as much). But as far as a game it had a cult interest at best. Even compared to games like No More Heroes, Killer 7, and The Silver Case. I would even argue Killer is Dead is more well-known as a game.

If we're going to be honest, that kind of describes literally every game Suda has ever made.

I feel like Lollipop Chainsaw has way more mainstream awareness than Killer is Dead. It generally has higher critic scores as well. And I'm pretty sure it sold more copies. Maybe people (and specifically his fans) looking back on his entire body of work see Lollipop Chainsaw as more of a bit of an embarrassment and overpraise his earlier stuff, but I don't know if I'd ever say Killer is Dead was the more popular game by any real standard I measure popularity by.

And your post may be the first time I've ever actually heard someone ever mention The Silver Case at all. It came out before anyone in the West really knew or cared who he was at all except for the most active of Japanophiles, and I don't think all that many people in general other than huge Suda fans have really gone back to play it. It might have picked up new fans via the remaster/rerelease, but I don't think it's ever really had a huge impact in the West.

I'd grant Killer7 is popular (especially since it was the game that basically introduced Westerners to Suda, and kind of established him as a quirky weirdo), but honestly I feel like Lollipop Chainsaw was far more hyped up than Killer7 ever was (mainly by virtue of people knowing his rep by that point and looking forward to his new game, whereas when Killer7 came out he wasn't that well-known). And while I don't have access to the sales figures for every individual game, I suspect Lollipop Chainsaw probably sold more than anything other than No More Heroes.

I feel like if you just asked random gamers which games they recognized, a lot more of them would say they remembered Lollipop Chainsaw than they would most of his other games (again, No More Heroes excepted). Which is why I'd probably describe it as one of his more popular games, not one of his least popular.

Again, maybe among people who are specifically huge Suda fans who've gone out of their way to play every game, they might LIKE all of his other games more than Lollipop Chainsaw, but I don't think the same holds true for the mainstream in general (and I think the mainstream is the only audience most publishers actually care about when it comes to greenlighting remakes and sequels).
