I'm hoping this year of hell is finally over when I get paid, but it's been so bad omg.

1). You never get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. I saw 90% of my paycheck vanish on pay day for bills

2). You discover bills for things you didn't know you had bills for? Guess what the oxygen bill is due tomorrow wtf

3). One little thing can destroy you. I have to be extra careful about parking or speeding because a 100-dollar ticket is a death sentence.

4). You discover how resourceful you can be to pay bills or to hopefully buy something nice for you

5). You become a great negotiator and story-teller from dealing with bill collectors

7). Work on building an emergency savings fund before you start focusing on other stuff. Having this will help you sleep much better at night and this will trickle down to other stuff.

I went through that for such a long time. There was a time when I was overdrafting on my bank account every week just trying to pay for food and gas to make it to work. And then my job cut my hours. I'm so glad I quit that place.

Went through that myself. 10 years ago my wife and I spent three hours driving around town with a truck full of bags of old soda cans trying to find one of those donation places where you dump them all in and get quarters, all so we could do laundry in our shitty apartment.

Now we own a nice big house and make over six figures together. No college degrees or anything.

It can get better.

There was a time where I lived paycheck to paycheck and it was awful. I only had $12 in my account when I got a job and it paid like shit, so I had to hyperbudget everything and usually after I finally had some decent savings after months of saving, some medical bill or a car repair would just wipe it all out again >_> It was definitely a very stressful time in my life.

I worked hard and improved my skills and years later I got a new job and promoted twice and now all that is all behind me. But I still try to live well below my means. I don't need luxury stuff and emergencies can happen at anytime. Things do get better if you work at it and hardwork pays off. It may take some time though

Yeah it's purely an income thing. This whole Doriac Spartan mentality won't save you from bad luck lol. Before I quit my old job, the worst thing that could've happened was me not contributing to savings this month because I made a spontaneous purchase.

I was in the middle of bouncing from job to job and had no idea what I wanted to do for a living at that time. I lucked out the next year and got a job doing tech support. I liked the basics of the job, but is was still shitty. I was pretty good at it, though, and ended up getting a few raises my first year. It was my first stable job where I wasn't struggling as much.

A system that by design keeps people desperate like this is not a good system
