I am a huge Chrono Cross fan and not just on its own merit, but also as a successor to Chrono Trigger.

Played Radical Dreamers for the first time last night and that was a lot of fun. Seeing how THAT was a sequel to Chrono Trigger was super neat.

I'm into Viper's Manor on this playthru. Love the combat engine and the way the magic system works. I also really appreciate how to start off the game you really have no idea how this will weave into Chrono Trigger beyond Porre being mentioned. I love that CC is more focused on the ramifications of time travel and the creation of paradoxes and how time and space would warp to account for these paradoxes. It is REALLY ambitious and while some people don't like it, I fucking LOVE it.

Id like to play that series but its not on modern consoles.

How long did it take you to get through Radical Dreamers?

I got the Chrono Cross Remaster at launch and played through CC but haven't tried Radical Dreamers yet.

Oops, didn't read the OP thoroughly enough.
Nah, it shits on all the characters other than Ayla and Glenn. Sequels that make the events of the prequel pointless are the worst. If you're going to drag the characters back into conflict, then they at least need another happy ending instead of being killed or displaced.

It is 100% a sequel. It deals with the direct consequences of the actions of the first game, at least for ONE of the potential endings.

It's a sequel to one potential timeline. That's kinda the whole point... what happens when you fuck with time and cause paradoxes? If you have a time machine what is stopping you from literally changing everything to the conclusion you want? What if space and time doesn't know how to rectify the paradoxes these actions create?

I couldve maybe accepted the retroactive bad ending to Trigger if their explanation wasn't that a comic relief character raised an army in a town famous for being in the middle of Bumfuck, Nowhere >_>

I think for the first time ever I said "Nah" to saving Kid. I've beaten this game at least like 4 times and I've never had Glenn on my team.

Why are the reviews on Steam so bad? I actually enjoy CC as well, and was going to get the Steam version, but it's, "Mixed," which is never a good sign for a Steam game

Kid is such a complex character. She's an Australian thief, but she's actually a European mage, but she's actually a Japanese city girl.

i don't think it's a good "sequel", but can agree that as a whole game it's as good as CT.

The Remaster is not what people wanted it to be. Beyond a bit of a visual facelift and the ability to speed up or slow down gameplay, it adds nothing to the experience. Kinda a lazy remaster.

I bought the Steam version and have beaten it twice: trust me, it is fine.

CTDS came out years after Cross and tried to, rather poorly, tie the two together more. Considering Cross never once mentions Dalton, even in the remaster, I believe its canon status is questionable (CTDS' extras, I mean). It IS pretty stupid that we're supposed to believe someone like him could raise an entire army and overthrow Guardia.

I felt like that was the devs trying to tie it in more. You don't really have to, Porre raising an army in 20 years is not like it would be impossible.

I don't know if Guardia is ever seen as a super power or anything. You would assume with the tech advantage of Luca maybe that would help? But she also didn't seem to GAF about helping out the kingdom, just people.

Glenn and Macha just joined the group! Macha is immediately more cool than Korcha. XD

Luccia has also joined the party. She is REALLY COOL but seems like from a pure gameplay level she is kinda low tier.

There is a huge difference in stats and how useful their special abilities are.

Magic is honestly NOT all that important with exception to a few fights, so you CAN just go pure melee DPS if you want.

All party members are good, some are really good, and some are great.

I like to play with "lesser-known" ones like Skelly, Draggy, etc. :3

Radius is a cool guy as well. Just got to his island.

Sorry I haven't been playing much the past few days. Life gets in the way of excellent games. XD

I really love how the dragons are kinda hinted at their importance and power but are just not really "around" right now. Except the Black Dragon which is curiously just snoozing.

Anyways, onto Fargo and the "Ghost Ship". It's intriguing how the game kinda quickly has you encountering Lynx and everyone is like, "Dude is fucked up. Seriously. I don't get why General Viper is helping him at all. Dude is a psycho and I hate him but he's strong so don't fuck with him"

I kinda love how Fargo is like, "We humans kinda fucked everything up. Dragons aren't around, the sea is all fucked. WTF guys?!"

Then as the revelations of what El Nido actually IS kinda hits it makes those words mean way more.

Likely to play more tonight! Headed back to Home World and gonna go see the Water Dragon.

All they allude to is 1 sentence. They say "someone showed up and saved her" or something like that.

Chrono Cross is. Trigger though...eh.

Finished up with the Water Dragon. First things first, fucking love how it looks. A weird amalgam of different aquatic creatures, it doesn't strike you as a "dragon" at first. However, when you later understand how the dragons came to be and what they symbolize, it is just cool.

Also, the first true link to Chrono Trigger starts right in this scene where you find out that Kid was adopted by Lucca, but also knew Marle and Chrono. She was kidnapped by Lynx and never to be seen again. Paints a pretty dark picture for it being a sequel to CT for sure, but it does let you know that yeah, it's the same universe. Or lets you THINK it is the same universe. But if you played CT you know you were fucking with time and there were like a dozen different endings so which ending are you now playing the sequel in?!?!

Lynx calls you the "Chrono Trigger" in Viper's Manor like 2 hours into the game.

Going back to Other World and running into Mt. Pyre quickly brings you back into the immediate stuff going on rather than the CT influence as you have to fight the other Acadian Dragoons (though they are a cake walk at this point) and go through that dungeon. Love the little peak at some sort of monster you can talk to or fight or whatever later, plus the little fight with the mini dragon.

Eh, it doesn't make sense for a person to be the "Chrono Trigger" in context of what you know from CT's plot. While he does use the word, it almost feels like it was a mistranslation.
