Sequels that make the events of the prequel pointless are the worst. If you're going to drag the characters back into conflict, then they at least need another happy ending instead of being killed or displaced. It's a sequel to one potential timeline. That's kinda the whole point... what happens when you fuck with time and cause paradoxes? If you have a time machine what is stopping you from literally changing everything to the conclusion you want? What if space and time doesn't know how to rectify the paradoxes these actions create?
