I mean, would this be more morally acceptable if he was only shot 10 times? It's the same end result either way. The guy was a fleeing suspect, who led the cops on a highspeed car chase, had a gun in the car, possibly fired on the cops, jumped out wearing a ski mask, led them on a foot chase, didn't stop when tasered, and then spun on them? Am I getting all that right? Because... that's a lot.

Because the point is to get them to avoid doing things like unloading 90 rounds at one guy! It's not about where the money comes from. Fine them for being wasteful and maybe, just maybe, they'll be less wasteful. It's the same kind of deterrent as traffic tickets. Don't want to lose money, then don't do shit you shouldn't be doing.

And it's not like this is a one off thing, there are tons of situations where cops wildly fire dozens of rounds. And unfortunately, a lot of those situations end up with someone other than the suspect being hit. Like, I wish I could find the exact incident, but I remember another topic on CE where cops fired 40+ rounds at one guy and ended up accidentally hitting and killing one of their own. So the suspect was charged with the murder of that officer.

That wouldn't cause their families to starve, don't be so dramatic.

Where something occurs is irrelevant. I'm not in the Akron area, but people do live there and have to pay taxes that go towards wasteful bullet use. If I am against taxpayers funding such things, then I'd be against it both if it was in my local area and if it was nowhere near me.

I'm also having a hard time seeing why people are frothing at the mouth over this one. Fled police. Had a gun. Fired said gun at the cops. Got out of his car with a ski mask on. Started running. Cops attempted LTL takedown first. Then cops fired. Cops had good reason to assume he was armed. Use of force continuum was followed. Am I missing something?

At which point was the use of lethal force unjustified here?

Yes. 1. Fewer bullets fired means less risk of accidentally shooting someone besides the criminal. 2. Using fewer bullets means less money spent.

This is disingenuous. It's not like it was one guy firing 100 rounds. It was multiple officers who didn't even empty their clips. And there were only that many officers because the guy led multiple cops on a highspeed chase where he shot at a cop through the window. Everyone was chasing him on foot when he spun. What do you think was going to happen? You think like 4 of the officers were going to be like, "Well I'm sure Officer Ricky has this. I'll just sit this one out and hope he takes care of it."

I mean, fuck. If you don't want to get shot by a cop then DON'T fucking shoot at the police.

Almost on par with the average salary of an assistant principal in Texas, and you need to have at least a master's degree for that. It takes longer to get the hours required to be a barber than it does to be a police officer in Texas.

He had a gun in the car with him and he fired it at least once before he got out. He ditched the gun when he left the car and ran but the cops didn't know that he no longer had it with him. Keep in mind the police are allowed to shoot a suspect if they have a reasonable fear for their life.

That's why they fired, right? They knew he had a gun and he spun on them. It was probably to surrender. But at that point, it's too late. If a cop thinks you have a gun and you spin on him then it's all over.

There was nowhere near enough officers there to make the amount of bullets shot be reasonable. A couple of bullets each would have been fine.

No. We are saying the cops fired an excessive number of times. The person getting shot is fine. That's not the issue here. Like there's a big difference between being shot at like once, like ten times and like 100.

When you shoot a gun at police, run away while wearing a mask and then turn around towards the cops, there's no such thing as "firing an excessive number of times". Stop trying to deflect the guilt away from the suspect. The police acted appropriately.

Assuming the cops were using Glock 19 model pistols, that'd be 6 full magazines worth of shooting.

No they did not. Like seriously, all firing that many shots does is increase the risk that someone besides the suspect gets shot. It doesn't meaningfully increase the chance of hitting the suspect and so is wasteful and dangerous.
