And I work for the government which has a long history of underpaying employees compared to the private sector. If you don't live in a flyover state and work in a competitive area, 100k is not that exclusive of a club. I also find it hilarious that people are saying you're poor or not well off if you're only making 100k in a major coastal city. I looked up Boston since Massachusetts is listed as the second highest in median income in the US. The median income in Boston is just 51k. Rental units and houses are insane in those markets, but I do think you disregard that some people are grandfathered into certain rents or may own homes from when they were cheaper.
