It's always best to live below your means. I try to live like I make 30k even though I break 100k >_> I still drive a 15yo car since it still works great and gets good mileage

As a trucker, 6 figures jobs as a employee aren't that common or well advertised. Let alone that don't force you to give up your time, life and happiness.

The fact that you're getting angry about a joke and turning it into a pissing contest about money is really telling about you.

You're the one showing xenophobia by bashing on Canada which is much better than the US right now.

I make a little bit less than that, I'm 25 and graduated college at 23. With inflation and my general unhappiness with life I want to get a different job though.

I'm bashing their money. As a joke. There is no xenophobia present. Calm down, take a deep breath, and eat a snickers. You'll feel better.

Household income, very few people live alone here and most will have roommates. In certain parts of the city for the young making the least money it is common to have people co-living where the landlord only rents out bedrooms for about 1k a month and you share a common space with 3 to 5 other people. People find a a way, it is just that on a 51k salary your options become very limited and you almost certainly are not doing anything to prepare for your future with that amount.

Right, as my question was rhetorical. People are living on less than 100k a year in Boston. It may not be the most comfortable, but they're doing it. And I also know people in Boston paying 1500 or less for places near the T which would be 18,000 for the year. Using that one third number, that means their salary could be 54,000 and it would theoretically still be reasonable for them.

Oh jeez, you mean when we talk averages there are some things below the average? No shit sherlock, of course there are people with cheaper rent that live on less 50k in Boston. I guarantee it sucks and they are constantly worrying about one thing going wrong and completely screwing things up. The simple fact is, you are not living comfortably in Boston until about 80k.
