Yeah im not reading any of that bullshit

Not gonna read a Mark Waid book?

Fell a bit behind, so just going to bring up the stuff that stands out to me. Stuff that was good before is still good now.

The Ram V and Jock run has started on Detective Comics, and its coming out swinging. Its a stark contrast to Batman, makes the 2 books stand out from each other a whole lot, which is exactly how I want it. Theres nothing worse than when Bat and DTec are interchangeable.

ASM #900 fell totally flat, feel like this was a love letter to old Amazing Fantasy comics and it just did nothing for me.

Same goes for Claremonts Gambit #1. I have NO Claremont affinity, so felt nothing evading this, and had trouble following. Wouldnt be surprised if but Claremont X-readers felt otherwise.

Cant say the same for Ewings Ant-Man #1, which seems to be following that trend but unlike those books I totally fell in love with the aesthetic of this issue. Not surprising!

The big winner is the new Maxi series Superman: Space Age, which feels like the second coming of New Frontier. Looks like its going to be taking place between the 60s and the 80d as a real time aging Superman story, and the first issue was flawless.

Variants #2: loved it, feel this is building to something good

ASM #900: While I think the issue made little sense overall I laughed a ton at different things in the issue.

can't imagine claremont writing anything good again after x-men forever or whatever it was called

they keep giving him these mini-series to satisfy x-men fans stuck in the 90's

I'm reading and enjoying this book for Gail Simone, but I'm definitely missing something with my only Jessica Jones experience being the show.

You're not the first person I've seen say this though, so sounds like his move to Marvel from DC didn't quite hold it all together.

he's probably been writing wolverine/x-force for too long and his penchant for uber-violence has made him a bit hack-y

Not writing up the picks for this week yet even though I've read a few, but I see that Batman Beyond Neo Year is ending next month even though it wasn't listed as a mini series. I hope it wasn't selling super poorly because of the stigma attached to BB comics, because it was shaping up to be really great.

Optimally this just results in a rebranding after this next issue rather than an actual cancelation, which does seem viable based on the narrative of this issue.

Notes for the week.

Dark Crisis' is feeling off in the pacing. As odd as it is to say, I really think some fo this content should have been sent out to a couple more tie in books. Still, the actual content is good, and the art is spectacular.

I'm going to put all the X books on hold, they've entered a big crossover I don't care about at all. Well see where they come out on the other side.

Sword of Azrael was a great first issue, it surprising considering the quality of the Urban Legends story it's spinning out of. The art is reminiscence of a more refined late 90's/earky 2000's DC aesthetic and I dig it.

The New Champion of Shazam is the Mary Marvel book I'vrle wanted for a while, and it started even stronger! Which it wasn't just going to be 4 issues, though.

Flashpoint Beyond continues to be a great read, and I wish the lineage of this story was a little cleaner because it really feels like a major release for the line.

And of course Zdarsky Batman is still killing it.

Mighty Morphin #22 ends with a neat moment, but also confronts the moving on question from being a ranger. It looks like the book wants to eventually retire the main cast but at the same time they dont want too and have them be active. And I understand it. its much easier to expand your universe then keep retiring long established cast members. Its likely why the book split and introduced the omega rangers instead of cutting half the cast.

I'm not very in the know on dc history vs marvel so I have 0 clue who a bunch of the society people that showed up in Dark Crisis. laughed out loud though at fucking punchline being in the legion of doom, fucking spare me

Punchline being up front and center is a laugh.

However the JSA splash page makes me giddy like a schoolgirl, I wish the page hadn't been part of the marketing because it's laser targeted at me
