I remember playing a good Spyro game years back, but it wasnt mine. The ones I had were the bad PS2 one, and a GBA one, they werent fun and didnt beat it. This game was pretty good, besides the final boss. Actually a bit challenging in a few parts, particularly since I was going for 100%. Ill say Im pretty sure theres another level I have to do after, Im just waiting for the credits to roll.

By the way, I bought the game before the Activision stuff came out, only got around to playing it just now. >_>

yes if you've 100% everything then you can get over 100% (wanna say 120%?) in the last level. It will only open for you if you've gotten everything else though.

Glad you enjoyed it! I've yet to play a Spyro game myself, but I definitely want to someday.

The Reignited trilogy solidified my personal belief that I just don't like collect-a-thon games anymore, and that I'm not willing to suffer through mechanics/stages I hate (AKA flying levels) just to say I got "100%" in the game.

The Spyro games were my absolute favourites growing up - I've played the various PS1 games like a dozen times each and am 117% everything on reignited right now.

If you're only 100%, then you do have a bonus level. There's a bonus level in each game if you otherwise 100% it, though the one in the first game isn't that great.

I think Spyro 2 only goes up to 100%

I had been 100%ing it, so once I collected the 80th dragon when the game restarted, I could enter the bonus level. Definitely felt like a victory lap of sorts.

Id say its pretty fun. I got 120% in like 10 hours, I looked up like one or two things besides how many levels there were, so its not bad.

Honestly I used to hate collectathons, or at least didnt like them. Took me like a decade to beat Jak 1. I thought this one felt pretty nice. Could just have been because it was something different from what I was used to.

Don't get me wrong: the reignited games are fun and have a great visual style. I'm just at the point where once I'm done having fun with a level I won't grind it a thousand times for every last drop, especially if you only need like 50% level completion on average to unlock the next area. I treat it less like a collection checklist and more like... well more like an amusement park where I pick which rides I want to get on rather than trying to hit every ride at least once.

At least Spyro 1 is fair. It's really not difficult to get everything in one go for each level. No backtracking or anything needed. 2 and 3 (especially 3 since you need to unlock the side characters) requires a little backtracking.

3 Has a little backtracking, but all the character levels are usually completely segregated from the actual level. And if the first thing you do is unlock the side character, it cuts the backtracking to one level per world.

I think 2 has more annoying backtracking because its like, still in the level, and its for dumber reasons like "learn to climb a ladder"

I can verify 4 things:
  1. There is a door in the Artisan hub world that was not in the original game.
  2. It is locked, and no ability you have in Spyro will open it, but charging it shows a brief glimpse of some sort of room behind it through a crack in the door.
  3. Fully completing all three games does not unlock the door.
  4. There is no official word on this from the devs. None that I could find, at least.

If they have, I haven't seen it. There's a PC version, so I would imagine doing it would be super simple for someone savvy at that sort of thin.

Yeah I guess that's the more interesting question. What were they planning and if it was scrapped then why did they leave the door there?

Honestly, Spyro 1 was my least favourite PS1 Spyro game. I think it's interesting for its sort of open world levels, but what someone would call open and sprawling and unprecedented for the PS1, I would call aesthetically interesting but kind of meandering.

Spyro 2 is the GOAT though.

Kinda just happens sometimes lol. In the latter half-ish of this video there's a glitch exhibition after the speedrun part. Something really cool that got showed off was an entire minigame area just left in one of the levels that's normally inaccessible. Even the devs that were watching the run didn't know about it. Whole thing's a really cool watch if you got an hour and a half to spare.

I started 2. Im on Hurricos, the place with the lightning stones. Theres a bit where you have to put the stones in a certain place, and theres a separate gliding section. The end of that section has replicas of the things where lightning stones go. I thought I was so smart thinking I should bring a stone with me to that to insert it, but they dont go in like they do with the others.

Haha, that was fun. Every time he'd launch himself into the air or out of bounds the devs were so amused lol.

I was surprised to hear how much they remembered about development and bug fixes so many years later. Like they all remember the egg glitch and the one dude knew exactly who would have been responsible for fixing the issue with the background music.

To get back to the mystery door in the remake though, it's still strange that TfB just left it there in the open. A giant door that apparently even reacts to charges. At least with the dummied out minigame arena in Spyro 3, Insomniac threw a mountain over the portal lol.

I haven't played the remake though. Is the door directly behind where you spawn at the beginning of the game? Is it just supposed to be where Spyro walked in from?

I'm enjoying Spyro 2 well enough, I feel like I got so used to how 1 went, that 2 feels almost empty, even though there are more minigames and involved things. Not sure if that makes sense. Could be it'd just help to get a fresh feel for it. Kinda considering downloading Yakuza 0, which I had started, but when my laptop got messed up, I wasn't able to play anymore. Been like 2 years.

The Reignited Trilogy really isn't a good way to experience the games, IMO. The visiual distinction of Spyro 1 and 2 in the original versions make for a joyous change when going back and forth between them. And they took the guidebook menu out of spyro 2 despite it being story-related and a great way to have a diegetic menu. Weird as shit.
