I watched The Amazing Spider-Man last night

I knew the general assessment of Garfield was "bad Peter Parker, good Spider-Man" but wow I was not prepared for how extreme both ends of that were

I didn't expect this to go so slow.

Am I alone in not hating Garfield as Peter? I always thought more along the lines of "good Peter, great Spidey, bad movies" (although honestly I though ASM1 was good - it's just ASM2 that's straight up trash).

The issue is the adaptation of his origin. Had Garfield not been saddled with that, I don't think the Peter conversation would come up.

I think Garfield is the worst Peter Parker but not by a lot. I'm not really a fan of Tobey Parker much either

He is the best Spider-Man by more than he is the worst Peter Parker by in any case

Having this be Bully Maguire would have been better, but Garfield #2 Spidey.

Admittedly the Peter stuff is kind of dragged down by the Gwen romance - it really just did not feel natural or convincing at all.

And yeah I didn't particularly like Tobey as Peter either. Holland is my favorite of those by a lot. Probably helps that he has Ned and Zendaya to play off, but even on his own I thought he was great.

Holland > Garfield > Maguire in terms of role but Garfield is far and away the best actor of the 3

Holland is definitely more than competent so I could go either way with him or Garfield. He absolutely has the better movies, but I definitely agree that Garfield is the best actor of the three.
