A left-wing state lawmaker who has pushed for cutting police funding first moved to the district she is seeking to represent in Congress because safety issues near the projects in Harlem prompted her to shack up with her tech bro then-fianc in the Financial District, The Post has learned.

Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou (D-Lower Manhattan) told a local publication in 2016 when she was campaigning to initially get elected to her current seat that she headed to the wealthier Manhattan neighborhood because she witnessed a pair of disturbing crimes and fell victim to one.

The police didn't do anything to prevent those crimes in 2016, so why should we fund them now?

The Post is literally using exampmes of police failure to try and argue that the police aren't failures. Insane.

Were the police defunded in 2016? This is a gotcha only if you believe that police provide public safety. But the most policed areas of any city are often the least safe.

So, in other words, because her district didn't listen to her, and try to get some police reform bills put into law, crime has gotten so bad she had to move?

Is this supposed to be some gotcha moment?

So to be clear, you don't think the police should focus more resources on areas that have higher crime rates?

Because it's kind of a no-brainer that there's a higher police presence in dangerous neighborhoods and why that is.

I don't think the police should exist, but that's another matter.

What I'm saying is that, if they were the solution to the problem of crime, surely it would be most solved in the places they are most present. But in fact it is the opposite.

She almost certainly moved to a neighborhood with a smaller police presence, which hardly seems at odds with her calls to defund the police.

Erm...

So are we just ignoring this or what?

I mean if the area is so dangerous that people are fleeing due to safety, isn't that demonstrating that the police aren't doing a good job?

Because population and poverty is increasing, and cop population is decreasing. Its never going to get better, regardless of what cops do. Theyre just a bandage to handle the calls through out the day

The article is saying that it's bad that someone who left a high crime area wants to defund the police

Your response to that is to say people are stupid for expecting police to do anything.

And you're calling others stupid rather than the article and it's target audience

Now if she left an area that had no police due to her policies that led to a crimewave, you'd have a point.

AS it stands all the right wing guys coming in and screaming "Lol you don't think the police are useless!?" are accidentally arguing in her favor.

Again, what can they possibly do short of pre-emptively knowing a crime is taking place? Do you understand what a police officer is? Because it really doesn't sound like you do..

You're missing the forest for the trees

The point is how can you use someone who moved away from a high crime area (years ago) wanting to defund the police as an attack against them?

The police clearly aren't doing anything to deter crime in that area and you passionately agree with that. So... What's the beef with this girl again?

Yet you're not attacking the article or it's audience... You're attacking the people who agree with you and calling them stupid....

I think this the human equivliant to when a Pokemon is confused and hits itself in confusion.
