Realized I never got the pro achievement for the next gen remaster so I started it today. Half the time Im getting hit because the movement is so awkward

Its actually one of my favorite parts of the game. Because it forces you to think about where and when you "stop and pop". If you are getting hit, its because you chose a poor position to fight back.
Too many games have really high strafe speeds, so theres no thought process behind where you are shooting from.

Really hoping in the RE4 remake, that they dont make the strafe too fast, disappointed they added a strafe. Also Ashley's new look is awful and looks nothing like the original. I'll still play it because its one of my favorite shooters of all time but dont have high hopes after RE3make.

I really wish that everyone would go back and play the original RE4 before playing the remake but I know most wont. The biggest complaint I hear from people is that the movement but hey I beat the game with a trackpad on a Steam controller.

Can't wait to move and shoot at the same time.

Played through REmake, RE0 and RE4 recently, but RE4 didn't seem as fun as before. REmake, though, was awesome and might've converted me from having RE1 (OG) as my fave RE.

Okay but from RE2make, RE4 and now this RE4make, Leon still looks like Leon.

If someone had shown me the picture of Ashley from the REmake4 trailer, but out of context of the trailer, I would never have guessed it was Ashley. The shape of her face, and her hair style is different. Need more footage but I bet they going to can her big dumbo ears.

Im probably the best REA player on this board lol. I had an hour 30 speed run. my PB for every RE and SH game is under top 10 on speed run, if I submitted. Ive posted my times here before

the movement is ass

The stop and pop was kinda slow, but the game is so slowly paced that it isn't even an issue. You can scrub literally every room

It's her original beta design before they changed it. Also she is wearing her re4 outfit under the jacket she has on in the remake.

Keep playing, I tried it for the first time about 2 years ago. It took me a bit but I got the movement down and it was definitely worth it

Just very slow and sticky and awkward

The main reason it's so beloved is because on release it had amazing graphics for the time.

Gameplay wise it's just obsolete.

Leon moved like a tank

Oculus is now my favorite way to play it

I played this game for the first time in December of 2019 and its still one of the best shooters of all time.

Like minimal enemy variety? Did you even play the fucking game? Its got more enemy diversity then both Remakes put together and maybe RE7 as well.

Tons of escort quests? Again did you play the game? Theres no quests, and the whole game is basically to escort Ashley out. Not that it matters as it has of the best escort mechanics in a game. You can literally put her in a trashcan and forget about it and when you cant, just do what you already were doing, shoot the enemy and bam you win.

Long dull sections? Again every area is a different designed arena for battle or a place to gather loot for restocking on ammo. The inventory system was great and no strafe is a good point and only bothers undisciplined casuals.

I like how your list includes all the boss fights and still has to rely on "Village guy, Castle Guy, Island Guy" and "Chainsaw man and Chainsaw sisters." to pad the list.

Not that it matters as it has of the best escort mechanics in a game. You can literally put her in a trashcan and forget about it and when you cant, just do what you already were doing, shoot the enemy and bam you win.

Having the best escort quests is like being shot in the eye by the smallest of the archer's arrows.

That doesn't make it good, it just makes it not as bad as other bad things. Hell the fact the developers blatantly knew how much escort quests sucked and put it in 40% of the game anyway says a lot.

And sure but even the inventory mechanics are dated. Having to load up your menu every time you want to use or move things is bad for pacing. A gui that comes up on screen during gameplay instantly is just objectively superior for flow.

You can switch weapons, combine items or move things in RE2make in the time it takes to load the inventory menu in RE4.

It's just dated design.

It's cool to like the game dude, everyone is allowed to like or dislike whatever they like but you're going full fanboy here with the lying, not accepting basic flaws and random shots at "The Casuals!" as some kind of (weird) defense of shitty game design

It's a recycled bit to get people to argue. Last time I checked, if you press him on the can't move and shoot bit, his routine falls apart and he just starts sounding like he's not very good at the game.

there's helpful things to learn.

it's getting past each section. that's what one needs to concentrate on.

I played it not too long ago and it didn't take long for me to get used to the combat. Definitely not "hard", just different than the run and shoot games of today

Hell it's not just limited to Leon. The awkward movement and inability to move while shooting affected how they programmed the AI as well. So the enemies move really slowly and in stupid awkward ways. Which eliminates all strategy beyond "Shoot them then back up and shoot them some more."

As well as the awkward level design where enemies get stuck or hit through walls.

I mean christ even on pro the enemies have no answer to you hiding behind a door and smacking them about the tits with a knife. Since there's no other way to program the AI as Leon moves like a milk-truck. The game would break if the enemies didn't also move like Milk-Trucks.

It's just dated design because the focus was on kickass graphics.

And again, the QTEs.

I mean they work for Suplexes and kicks. But every other implemention of QTEs in RE4 is God Awful and there's a solid reason you won't address that. This includes the ones in combat and movement.

I'll defend QTEs, but mainly in the gameplay itself. The enemy initiates an attack, instead of a dodge button they give you a reaction prompt. Instead of asking you to time a dodge that might fail they decided to give a consistent dodge but it's something enemies spring upon you. In the gameplay it's only ever going to be A+B or L+R and the game lets you mash them. It's only in cutscenes you can fail them for hitting the wrong button and even then, what's wrong with a bit of gameplay in your movie?

There's nothing wrong with the knife not being its own button. You hold to aim the knife then you're allowed to go for the knees or the face. The headshots with the knife let you do the kick which can send enemies back through crowds, the knee one lets you do the suplex which has the crit headshot gimmick.

The enemies are a mindless horde of well, combat drones. They're barely a step up from zombies for the most part. Pretty sure Ganado means cattle or something, the idea being they're meant to attack in packs and one alone is very easy to exploit and kill. It's when the projectiles and chainsaws show up you start needing some crowd control or an order of operations. I need an example of them getting hit through walls, but for them getting stuck the first thing to mind is that weird spawn toward the end of the village level of mercs.

I just replayed RE4 a month or so ago. Pretty hard at the start, but just needed to get back into the groove. Headshots with roundhouse kicks, shots at the knees and suplexes, knowing when to unload with a shotgun. Game is still a total blast.

I can't wait to play the game with good controls.

Has to be you, I just streamed half the game for 4 hours and had a blast like always. Now when am I gonna finish it.

Anyone who says the game is hard is full of shit or just flat out sucks at the game.

I'm not gonna bother with the remake since you know Capcom is gonna cut a lot of content. I don't see Separate Ways or Mercenaries being in the remake.
There's no reason to cut any content from the game but Capcom did it with the remake of 2 & 3.

The game isnt hard. The controls are just annoying after going back to it couple years later

I'm about to replay the game again because of this topic lol.
