I am on my 9000th playthrough off final fantasy 6. And so this time I was like you know what, fuck it, I'm gonna use the people I never use.

The funniest part is.........Umaro is actually carrying my party right now. I have RunningShoes on him and he kills most of the enemies.

God, Strago is useless. holy crap.

Relm and Strago's magic power will be your saving grace, though Offering + Fixed Dice will also be badass. The game is easy enough that Umaro won't really be THAT much of a factor. They really could have made him stronger and sturdier so that he's actually a valid option to use.

In vanilla FF6 strago is garbage because all the good magic power equipment can only be worn by the girls.

T-Edition fixes this.

Edit: it also fixes Umaro.

Have you played any of the rom hacks? There are some good ones that change things up. Divergent paths, brave new world, t edition, eternal crystals, and return of the dark sorcerer are all worth playing imo.

Best rom hack has leo replace shadow. Jesus hell hes broken.

In divergent paths they add leo and another character to the roster so you don't lose shadow

I just played FF6 Pixel Remaster. Most of my playthroughs were as a kid, where Id focus on characters with physical attacks (Sabin, Edgar, Gogo spamming Sabins blitzes, Cyan) and use espers to increase my characters max HP.

This time, I really focused on magic, as well as swapping espers so people would gain stat buffs on level ups. I did a strong focus on Strago, Relm, Terra & Celes. It was a fun playthrough. Magic was incredibly strong when getting a +1/+2 buff on every level.

Depending which version, Mr. Thou should be in there.
Relm has decent magic, which alone should carry hard.
Dancer Mog would fit in.

Relm has the highest natural magic Stat in the game
Magic is the big damage dealer in ff6 so relm is one of the most powerful party members

She isn't a reject

Gau is a character I use almost every game. Stray Cat rules most of the game, and then Tyrannosaur rules later on. He is one of only 2 characters who can wear the Snow Scarf armor. He is great

Will look into. It was cool using Leo so much. Shock is like a non elemental level 3 magic attack on everything, i think. And his equips are solid.

stray cat is the best offensive rage for the entire game
no reason to use tyrannosaur over it

magic pot is the best defensive rage in the game
literally the only 2 rages you need
even wind god gau used the stray cat rage and that was such an overpowered build that it got removed from every port and remaster of the game.

relm is the greatest just felt that hasnt been said enough and you should feel bad about yourself for calling one of the strongest party members a reject.

also setzers introduction is kind of rapey
i mean he plans to kidnap a woman and force her to marry him. what happens next on the honeymoon? he didnt get her consent for the wedding do you really think he would stop trying to consummate the marriage just because she said no and resisted?

oh you should.
it also adds a 16th character slot so its not just leo you get
it also changes how you recruit cyan in the WOR and makes a female imp the 16th party member
and leo has actual side quests to do so he feels like a full fledged member of the team
the game is mostly the same with just some minor differences here and there. the most major differences being the events of thamasa which had to be changed to keep leo around
and the raft party split which changes teams around a bit

like now locke meets shadow before getting celes
which means shadow no longer can be recruited by sabin and edgar is now with sabin instead of terra. and they never go to the veldt

terra now ends up on the veldt making her segment as long as locke and sabns when before it was super short

Give Gau the master scroll/offering, then put him into his Stray Cat rage. Big damage.

Even more if you also give him a genji glove, then equip Gau with a pair of Imp Halberds.

HOW HAVE I BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME SINCE THE 90'S AND NEVER KNEW THIS?

You can also have turns where hell do 4 half damage normal attacks, so it isnt always a grand slam. Still, when it works, it works.

T Edition has an accessory that changes Terra Trance to Shock.

It's not actually that powerful but still fun to use.

Update: I am now entering the DRAGONS DEN bonus dungeon

God I want a enhanced remaster of the GBA version of this game on the Switch so fucking bad.

You need to try t edition at least. There's a ton of extra content. Every character has extra costumes to unlock that make them look like characters from other final fantasy games. They also give stat boosts.

Shadow is fantastic - he can wear great gear, the "Thiefs Dagger" is awesome, and his dog blocks for him. He can throw Imp Halberds for 9999 that is unblockable.

Locke does kinda blow I agree with that. He can equip the Thiefs Dagger too, but meh. He's kinda a shittier Shadow.

It was only ever intended to be played on a Japanese game. The English patch is just a translation.

A couple of things about Relm:

1) Joins the party WAY too late in the game, I have already picked out my favorite 4 and no way am I pushing one of them out to make way for the little girl who draws.

2) Sketch is useless. Legit.

3) Gear choices are meh.

The vanilla game is so easy it doesn't matter who you use. My first party as a kid was mog, umarov, cyan, and sabin and I crushed everything with ultima.

relm officially joins the party before shadow officially joins so he joins just as late as she does
and if he doesnt make it to the second half of the game since he can be lost permanently then relm gets his dog and he does all the things for her he used to do for shadow
plus she is more straightforward to get in the second half of the game so she can be one of the earliest party members you rerecruit.

sketch can cause a glitch that will give you max copies of the best equipment in the game.
she joins just in time to go fight intangirs which on the snes can be insta killed with doom and they give you 10 AP making it the best place to grind for AP in the snes version

yeah here are hints throughout the game
do you know about shadows dreams?

stay at inns with shadow in your party and you might get a dream of shadows backstory
several dreams paint a story of the man he used to be
well and these are spoilers coming up about a secret connection between shadow and relm you wouldnt know about without seeing all his dreams and intentionally not getting him to be in the second half of the game if you let him die on the floating continent then you find relm in the cave you would have found shadow in. and you see one of his dreams through her eyes where you learn shadow is relms long lost father who abandoned his family. which is why the dog likes relm and why he becomes relms if shadow is dead

Relm can hit 128% MBlock without using any equipment that other party members need for 128%. Also Cat Hood has great elemental properties, and she can use Magus Rod for the sweet +7 Magic. Teach her some decent spells, ignore Sketch, cast spells with her and she's one of the best party members. Do anything else with her and she's one of the worst.

Strago can be decent but only if you go out of your way to get his best Lores. Big Guard is the best support ability in the game, Pearl Wind is pretty good healing, and he has some decent attack Lores. Not too hard to make him better than Cyan and Umaro at least.

Umaro with haste at lvl 99 will just win the game for you.

The game really wasnt made for lvl99 anything.

Genji glove and offering on anyone is op broken as well.
