I havent had AC for about 2 weeks and it could be another 2 weeks before I get AC. The reasoning behind that is complicated and I dont want to type an essay about it.

I also work overnights so I have to sleep during the day. My thermostat can reach as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit even as late as 8 PM. When I get home from work in the morning, it isnt uncommon for the thermostat to be in the mid 80s.

I keep windows open and I freeze a bunch of water and put it next to my fan while Im going to bed. It barely helps at all.

I had no problem dealing with this for the short term but as the days roll on, it gets hotter and hotter. That means it becomes more and more unbearable. Any tips?

Fans in the windows. Some to pull air in and some to pull air out. That's how I use to keep cool at my grandma's house who didn't believe in AC so never had it installed. A furnace sure but not ac.

Get an AC, basically.

Fans don't do shit once it gets hot enough, you're just blowing hot air back in your face. The South sucks during the summer.

I use one of those small swamp coolers that keep getting advertised as mini ACs but are clearly not. It's a small fan that when placed immediately in the vicinity of your person will have a cooling effect on you, not the room. Might be a decent emergency solution.

Though I hear they're less useful in humid environs.

Ill assume its humid. If it is having a fan blowing on you can be counterproductive. Place the fan in an open window, facing out. If you live in a house with a basement, sleep there.

Fans in high heat+humidity could raise the chance of heat exhaustion. Swamp cooler is probably your best bet before you can afford a new unit.

Get some black out curtains and block as many windows as you possibly can to reduce the amount of heat coming in. It'll keep rooms a lot cooler even without any fans in especially during sunlight hours.

I actually have black out curtains for my room but I wasnt sure if using them was a good idea or not. My thought process was either the curtains was going to absorb the heat and make it hotter or keep the heat out. Ive kinda been experimenting but now that you brought it up, I think it was cooler with the curtains up

If you don't have blackout shades on the windows already, pin some thick sheets over them to block out sunlight. If your wallet is already on life support, hit a thrift store for bargain sheets or curtains you can toss into storage when summer's over.

Plenty of ways to beat the heat without AC. Underprivileged people do it all the time. Think smart.

these work proportionally less and less depending on how bad the humidity in your area is. places that are mostly a dry heat will get nicely cooled by them but places with a swampy heat like the south it doesnt really do anything

and op go to wal mart and look for window units or those portable roller acs for the time being. thats really all i can think of. window units dont do much to cool the house at large but they can generally handle a room you're in a lot. they're pricy but its worth not being miserable and possibly you or a pet getting heat exhaustion

The heat index in the South today is 100+ degrees.
A fan in the window ain't going to do shit.

A swamp cooler (like pictured above) might prevent heat stroke but you either need to get AC or evacuate.

Block out as much light as possible, set the ice infront of your fan, and maybe put your bedsheets in a freezer during the night. They'll remain cool long enough for you to fall asleep, and the rest should keep you asleep.
