A gay bar in Texas was hosting an event called Drag The Kids To Pride, A Family-Friendly Drag Show:

• Drag performers lip-syncing and dancing.
• Adults & children seen handing money to the dancers.
• A sign on the wall that reads Its Not Gonna Lick Itself!
• There was a crowd of people outside protesting. Eventually police arrived. Performers, staff, & attendees were harassed.
• The Twitterverse is popping off with rightwingers arguing that such a thing should never have happened, children shouldnt be in bars or being exposed to drag. Accusations of grooming etc. etc. Leftwingers defending the event and defending kids attending family-friendly drag shows.

I take more issue with taking kids to a bar club etc. You wanna let them see drag queens? Have the drag queens come to their school or something. An establishment that mostly sells booze is no place for children. People get stupid when drunk and around a bunch of people

Don't send kids to a drag show in a bar. Drag shows tend to be fairly sexual. Bars simply aren't a place for kids.

Perhaps you could do something of a drag show for kids, but it'd have to be at the school and they'd have to mostly just lip synch to pop songs.

But yeah idk. Drag has always seemed very niche to me and drag queens (from my experience, the ones I knew) dress nothing remotely like that when not doing drag. Many of them dressed like normal masculine guys. So I find it weird to equate it with teaching kids something positive about diversity or whatever. Nothing about drag is "real" and that is kind of the fun in how over the top it can be.

Yes. There's nothing explicitly sexual about the show with the exception of the sign. But what they're performing is incredibly tame compared to shit like early Britney Spears performances and 99% of other pop stuff that children are exposed to.

Comparing it to a music video is nowhere near a valid comparison when music videos aren't designed for kids specifically like this show was and doesn't get the kids "involved" like this show does.
