That part is so bad, I didn't think I should share. Just damn that is getting to me so much. Children this week, last week it was the elderly. Just what the fuck.

Our country is the worse it has ever been imo, I know we had world wars but those were soldiers at war far away, right now our homeland is plague with so many problems

yea, this is one of the most messed up things I've heard of in relation to a school shooting, and that's saying a lot.

I felt this in the pit of my stomach. Like the term "school shooting" is enough to invoke horror but then you see details like this and realize it's worse than you imagined.

Ok but after these events nothing is done to prevent another event like this from happening again.

I just dont understand the lack of doing anything afterwards.

Honestly this is the sort of stuff they need to be putting out there.

Fuck the killer. The loved ones of the victims (assuming they're up for it) should be getting the spotlight. They are the ones who have to live with this every single day for the rest of their lives. They're the ones who have to start planning a funeral for a massacred child that they loved and cared for every day. They're the ones who have to come home to a kids bed and toys that will never be used again.

I saw today that the families of the Sandy Hook massacre had to sit in a fire station waiting for news that they have found their child. One by one family members left to reunite with the survivors. Until eventually all of the remaining ones were told that their child is dead.

These are the stories we should be told about. This was done for 9/11. It should be done for the people who are pointlessly slaughtered because of an opportunity that America grants their killers.

The fact that they can't even identify the children because of the military grade/style weaponry is just...jesus fucking christ. Every single senator who has opposed legislation that would help curb incidents like this should be ashamed from the bottom of their blackened heart. Truly.

We don't really know but he was an 18 year old student at the same school districts high school

It's possible years ago he was a student at this school. As to why he attacked it though......we still don't know and it's possible we may never know

To me hes a loser for doing what he did. No matter if he was bullied or abused. He just caused a massive ripple of multiple families, he's lucky to have died and not sit in prison for life.

I guess it's because the area is so close to the border between US and Mexico, they were there in a law enforcement capacity, and to limit the loss of life as much as possible.

That's the thing. People in government positions aren't supposed to get off on power.

Their number 1 priority is meant to be safeguarding and protecting the American people, ensuring laws and regulations are in place to help with that protection, along with any interests the people may have.

It just goes to show how corrupt our government is, they no longer care about the people, and they haven't for a long time. Hell, one could argue they never cared in the first place.

That's also the reason why they created this divide among the people and indoctrinated so many, while we're fighting each other they're wondering what they can do next to make things worse.

What happened was right-wing media sources didn't pick it up.

And Alt-right media called them Crisis actors and harrased them.

There's really nothing we can do to change this before we tackle the issue that is the right-wing anti-reality movement and media in the US that has been the cornerstone of some of the worst suffering and disasters since before the Civil War.

Tucker Carlson is already peddling "They're trying to silence your right to express your opinions! Don't let the left do that! What about gun crime in Chicago!?" rhetoric before the bodies are cold

It's not that simple.

Australia, the UK and Japan are isolated islands that control their boarders, don't have many guns in civvie hands to begin with and have a population that opposes gun ownership.

The US is enormous. Has a huge boarder to Canada and Mexico, has more guns in civie hands than civvies. (I think 120 guns per 100 people and that's just registered legal firearms)

And has a gun culture that is centuries old and literally has gun ownership in the Consitution of the country. Millions of Americans love guns and base their lives and identities around them.

It's not easy to just introduce gun control laws like it was in Oz or the UK. Half the population will oppose it and fight it at every level

And even if those laws got passed, all those people with guns wouldn't give them up. They'd buy more.

The NRA purposefully stirs up gun law propaganda because the fear of gun control causes a spike in gun sales.

To change the US you need to change the right wing attitudes of the American people living in it. You can't change it via laws like you could in the Commonwealth

All those countries you listed have significant right wing attitudes. It's a thing that'll always exist. Changing right wingers, especially for the US, is going to be a lot harder than implementing some form of gun control.

Once upon a time, I'd have advocated for the release of crime scene photos to "shock" people into action but people are too far gone to care regardless. It's "oh, how terrible" for few days then back to memes and triviality.

you can probably count on one hand the times that has actually happened. a republican baseball game was somewhat recently shot up and nothing happened. you had that parkland parent whos kid died to a mass shooting still go to bat for gun rights. as recent examples. if republicans do do something its usually based on fear via classism or racism (see: black panthers).

If Americans actually cared, people would be outside protesting for some type of change.

To the extent this is true (and I don't think it is), it's because you're more likely to be able to actually affect one situation than the other. You can spend years yelling at those in power, and the Senate (which is inherently unrepresentative) will not listen. Or you can criticize a shithead online and at least get their attention.
