Everytime I've used a steal ability in a square game ends up in a wasted turn of low damage and nothing gained. To the point I just don't use it very often.

Yeah I'm finding that out. Pretty handy for handling cactuars. Though it seems they're not great for AP farming in this game like 8's cactuar island.

steal was notoriously bad in IX, but still fine in most of other games.
ironic since the main character's job is a thief.

This is actually a segment of the game where many party members grow as a result of learning that. I won't spoil anything, but this is such a good point of the game for me.

Also, what was your reaction to learning that Yuna would die after beating Sin?

That was a gut punch. Of course I'm playing the X/X-2 hd remaster comp so I guess it shouldn't have hit that hard. More intrigued to see how it gets avoided.

It's kinda funny that the cages they put them in have bars wide enough they could fit through but not doing it

To answer your blitzball question.

1. Once you get back to the airship, stay in the cockpit and recruit brother. (He's the one flying the thing.)
2. Play him at center
3. Profit.

That one player is probably enough to get you all the wins you need to unlock Waka's celestial weapon. But other players like Svanda (calm lands) and Yuma guado (guadosalem) will help make it impossible to lose.

Awesome, and holy shit bahamut definitely rocks some shit. His AOE attack is partly helping get through the via purifico

btw you're going to encounter a boss at the end of the underwater segment of the Via Purifico. Should you have difficulty (which is possible if Rikku, Tidus, or Wakka have been under-utilized to this point), you can always simply kill it with a couple Phoenix Downs. It's undead.

Just like that undead...tree was it in IX? It was a tree monster wasn't it? Just for shits I threw a phoenix down at it since I was about to lose the fight anyway and killed it. My cousins and I fell to the floor laughing on that one.

So this fight with isaaro is coming down to a pokemon battle

Auron can get the zombie attack skill at the end of his portion of the sphere grid. That attack will turn almost anything into a zombie (undead). Very useful for cheesing.

My first FF game and it was on Switch two years ago. I loved it.

I hated the mini games though, including Blitz Ball.

speaking of status ailment, get weapons with Death Strike and Petrify Strike, and you'll KO most random encounters in 1 hit.

Seymour battle 2 down. Some well placed reflects and beating on that snake thing to force it to drain him.

Wow. Kamarhi the perv watching that love scene. Figured something was up. As I recall tidus seems to be the first FF hero to nut up and kiss the girl in the middle of the story instead of the end.

lol he's just overprotective of Yuna, really. The story expounds on their dynamic later.

I finished it for the first time on the PS4 collection in 2015. I had attempted to play it 2 times before, once when it was new, once when the PS3 collection came out.
It's not a perfect game but it is pretty damn good. I'd give it an 8.5/10.

Been replaying this recently as well. It's definitely my favorite mainline FF game that isn't an MMO.

I'm done for the night. Mainly wandered around calm plains building up some levels. Marlboros are just as much a pain in the ass as they've always been. Of course I can now increase aeon attributes. Valefor seems kinda forgetten but I guess I better pump that one up a bit for emergencies.

weird, there's definitely more than plenty fanservice for males.

Played a little more tonight. Spent most of that time with that machina from Seymour's people sick on you. Went into the stolen fayth cave and found a save point. Those magic urns are actually more bothersome than helpful.

btw, did you get magus sister yet? they should be available by that point, when you able to ride chocobo at the Calm Plains.

They need to do the mission at the underwater ruins to get them, though. Iirc the Magus Sisters require everything else before you can recruit them.

Speaking of, TC, did you grab all the treasure spheres from the trials up til now? >_>

ah, true.
you can get into the temple, but the back door is locked until you clear the underwater ruin and cave of stolen fayth.
you also need to capture all monsters too.
still, TC should try to visit it for Belgemine.

If you ever get a chance to replay the game, you'll notice a few instances of foreshadowing to this: most notably when Tidus is disappointed that they won't get to see the Moonflow in all it's proper glory, at which point he suggests that they can see it on the return trip, and everyone else goes quiet.

Ngl, I thought it was pretty special in ye olden era of 2001 that two FF protags finally kissed onscreen (even the kiss at the end of FF 8 is more implied as the camera rapidly zooms out). Gave me a major case of the d'awwww's.

Yuna telling Tidus that she wants her pilgrimage to be full of laughter is another such instance of said foreshadowing.

I was up to bevelle. That one caught me off guard and since it doesn't let you go back I had to let that one go

Ah so I looked it up and it seems Bevelle is a bit of an exception, since you're required to use the destruction sphere to complete it. If you got everything else then you're gucci.

Just an FYI you should capture all the creatures in the calm lands before moving on. It unlocks Yunas unpowered ultimate weapon which is useless right now but having it breaks the damage limit for Valefor.

before, as calm land is right before the cavern. it's on the eastern part.
also in the middle of calm lands, there's a chocobo ranch that makes exploring the calm lands much easier.

there's also a sigil for an ultimate weapon on the north of calm land, an access to hidden temple at the south, and many other items.

as for capturing, you must kill the monster with specific weapons sold on the monster arena. best combined with death or Petrify abilities.
