To help members make informed choices about what to watch, we offer ratings, content warnings and easy to use parental controls.

Not everyone will likeor agree witheverything on our service. While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide whats appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.

As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values. Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If youd find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you...

I would normally think for people who are against gay marriages because a lot of their programming has LGBT stuff, but we all know the big reason for that line inclusion is because of the Dave Chapelle incident.

What does that even mean?

If you're anti-death penalty and anti-gun, be ready to write shoot-em'-up action?
If you're a Christian, be ready to write the theocratic dystopian story?
If you're socially conscious, be ready to write the ethnic stereotypes the studio has agreed upon?

Artists aren't just artists. They're people first and foremost. You couldn't ask Alan Moore to turn around and write a graphic novel about how awesome Nixon and the Bushes were. You can't make Sylvester Stallone appear in a movie about how we need to abolish the death penalty and eliminate guns from society. Forcing someone to work on the opposite end of the spectrum is how you wind up with crap like Disney's version of the Lone Ranger. They took an atheist director who specializes in free-spirited antiheroes and dark content and gave him a bright natured law enforcement officer created by conservative Christians. The result was two hours of Gore Verbinski making fun of the protagonist and making sure the audience was just as bored watching it as as he was filming it.

It means losing about 200k subs and having the stock price take a massive hit from people abandoning Netflix due to what it has become (as opposed to what made it great before they started caving to employee demands in terms of content) matters more than the hurt feelings of some employees.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I could never work on something like A Handmaiden's Tale or The Golden Compass. That's part of the reason why I'm writing a book instead of a screenplay. Other people are allowed to do as they please, but there are things I can't be a party to.

If I do a screen treatment, it's possible that I may be asked to work on other projects. But by that point I'll be able to have it in my contract that I cannot be asked to write for anything antireligious. Everything I've heard or read points to novel writing being less stressful and more rewarding than screenwriting. (And easier to get accepted.)

Netflix is not merely telling applicants with certain sensitivities to avoid applying. They basically told the employees "if you're offended, get over it or quit".

Kind of seems like a 180 compared to past statements. Could it be related to their current bottom line and subscriber numbers..?

Netflix pretty much offers content on both spectrums. It's a tough one because where do we draw the line?

I agree that some people are way to sensitive, but at some point there might be someone who makes something so offensive that people have no choice but to question the material.

Just my two cents.
