Hate to see it, even if it was preventable with just a modicum of education, sucks that they don't teach this stuff in school (even if it is pretty obvious). Don't gamble with more than you can afford.

This is one reason runescape was such a good game. as a kid, you probably got scammed in it at one or multiple points. and learned what a scam was and how to identify one. then as an adult, you dont fall for shit like this. people need to be scammed as a kid with something inconsequential imo.

it really sucks for the victims here, and whoever is responsible needs to be punished, but education is important despite what republicans would have you believe

I do actually think about this from time to time. It's my main lead when I try to understand why people like Minecraft. The way they can blow up each others' houses, bust into their safes or encase them in obsidian tombs or whatever is kinda similar to Runescape.
The interactions with real people with a hint of unpredictability or even danger was the real appeal of Runescape. I can't bring myself to try OSRS because deep down I know it'll be full of 30-somethings running up and down Varrock unenthusiastically maxing out a character for the sake of upturning one last stone from their youth.

falling for "get rich quick" schemes is a sad reality that can happen to so many people. its a sickness. how do these people not diversify? why are they putting all their money into a single cryptocoin? even the most basic financial advice could have prevented this

The problem is that most people get flooded with bad financial advice long before they're even aware of where to get good advice. And even for those who do get good advice, actually applying it can be hard, and there's always the weakness of giving into "get rich quick" temptations no matter how illogical they are.

I'm not in favor of outright bans / restrictions to deal with that, but you know what would be great? Actually teaching people about this kind of stuff during schooling. The average person has far more need for knowing how to manage finances than they do for knowing what a mitochondria is.

They read stories like "If you had 20k in this coin 3 years ago you'd be a multimillionaire today!" and thank that it will happen to them.

Diversifying is safer but also not as exciting even though it will work out significantly better in the long term.

I agree this stuff should be taught in schools more. Although I do remember in my economics class the teacher saying "If your parents biggest investment is their house or car then they are poor" which I guess is correct but also paints that 'go big or go home' picture.

I still think back to one time I gave a guy my account password because he said he could use it to give me a membership. I was lucky that all he did was mine some stuff before he logged off and I could change the password. You can be damn sure I never made that mistake again.

One one hand, there are some people who counting their losses from their ATH as opposed to their initial investments. But generally speaking, a lot of people in this space don't read, and usually go off by what other people say or choose from a top 10 ranking. So a lot of people are susceptible to influence...ers, youtube shills, and the whole shebang and don't have a technical understanding of the technology itself. Basically the bullish version of the noisy CE crypto skeptics, don't know jack but thinks it's all amazing.

There were a number of developers and other teams who were skeptical of Terra's model and called it a ticking time bomb. Turned out they were correct.

No, because that just bans the useful technology side of it, while the scam side just moves on to the next scam. Education is the answer here, not bans.

Regulation at the least, wouldn't you think? Education doesn't stop the fact that numerous crypto coin groups are essentially cults, where education on a subject matter is generally overridden by emotional manipulation.

Dude was a moron >_> He deserved it lol. He was doing a drop trade near fucking Lumbridge. There was a bunch of people nearby too, so if it wasn't me, someone else probably would've seen the stack of gold anyway. When I did drop trades between my accounts, I went way into some secluded space, like near the vampire manor.

Who knows, maybe I saved him from getting scammed for real money in the future <_<

Keeping in mind how crypto works, and in particular that it's specifically designed to avert regulation or interference, as well as that it's very little trouble to make a transaction (for the purpose of going to or from fiat) via a provider in a foreign country rather than one's own; how do you propose this regulation should work?
