It still floors me that he died because he was drunk and tried to jump over his 2nd story fence and I guess he thought he was ground level.

Like for a comedian to go out that way, it sucks when they die but if they die at least they die in some hilarious way right? Maybe I'm just morbid.

Hockey seems like a sport where you could hold on to like 60 or something, in the minors at least.
Racing is the only sport that can go on longer.

By the way, I told my grandparents we were pregnant today. I liked how we did it, we had our wedding photos on a jump drive and we went visit them under the guise of showing them our photos and saving them to their computer. But I put that picture of our dog wearing that shirt at the very end, so we went through all our wedding photos (like 200 of them) and at the very end there was that photo.

My Gran started crying. Idk what kind of relationship yall have with your grandparents, but my mom was a single mom when she had me and I grew up my first 8 years in my grandparents house, they were basically a different set of parents to me. I feel really blessed that they're still with me today in my mid 30s and they'll be able to be great-grandparents.

My granny and poppa were like parents to me.

All my grandparents have passed on years ago now though.

I unfortunately have no living grandparents left, but I was very close with my granddad on my mother's side, closer than I was with my own dad. I lived with him 3 months of the year from about age 7 to 16.

That's a cool moment, I bet the reveals have been fun for you two.

One grandpa and one grandma got to see a great-grandkid before they shuffled off.
Wasn't my kid, but it still worked out.

That topic asking how many of your grandparents are still alive recently made me have an even more appreciation for them. Kind of put it into context how rare it is to still have all 4 of your grandparents still alive into your mid 30s. Especially ones that were so important to my upbringing.

Funny thing is my wife still has a great-grandparent alive, so she'll be a great-great grandparent. I'm glad some of the photos we gave at our wedding was us holding her up as she danced with us. I had her breathing machine over my shoulder but she insisted lol. I may try to find it and upload it

Both grandmas made early to mid 90s. Poppa had alzheimers and grandpa died of cancer before I was born.

My dad is 65 and in better shape than most 20 somethings in spite of his drinkin and smoking so I aspire to that.

I'm sorry you never got to meet your grandad. At least you got to spend quality time and be close with your other grandad. From what I've observed, being a grandparent is the best kind of relative you can be

My grandparents didn't do so well. Deaths in order:
Maternal Grandpa: 62 (liver cancer)
Paternal Grandma: 76 (some sort of mysterious potassium crash)
Paternal Grandpa: 82 (anywhere from three to seven cancers all at once)
Maternal Grandma: 80 (antiphospholiplid syndrome)

I learned the hard way tonight that "open until ___" often means drive through only. I was locked out of a bunch of fast food places I thought were open, so I walked an extra 2-3 kilometers to a convenience store and the walk took an hour longer than expected. Outdoor temp was not bad, around 70F with medium humidity. That being said, I got back home and could not deal with the indoor temp. I try to avoid AC until June and while I succeeded last year, I failed this year.

i do acknowledge that I could have made better decisions tonight though, such as leaving earlier

I think you did, but I'm just now coming back to hockey after the NBC era finally ended.
I think Mike Smith was playing back then, too.

I still think my favorite time for hockey broadcasting was the late 90s when ESPN2 did national hockey night with Gary Thorne and Bill Clement, Darren Pang was on the team too. Lot of good memories of games Thorne called. Not to be a homer, but the Wings home broadcast team is very solid also right now. Mickey Redmond is usually tipsy by the 3rd and rambles about all kinds of stuff.

I remember back in late 70s and all of the 80s i the midwest, when we'd get maybe six channels, and sometimes there'd be hockey on one of the American broadcast networks.

Then cable happened, and being poor in rural Missouri fucked that over. There were more goats than people in my tiny town until 1995, and we even lived just outside of that town.

We were even the "bougie" family in town, because my dad drove an hour to the GM factory every day.

And that'll about do it for Kings/Oilers

Looks very similar to my wife's brothers he had a few years ago, same deal, outdoor wedding, had a big covered patio like that, and a large, basically brand new barn for the reception. It did rain after, so having indoor options was a plus.
