Futaba is rather young(That is more of a ethical issue for the western world though). She is technically your step sister and your step father doesn't want you two get involved with one another. Before she is adopted by Sojiro she comes from the home of one of her extended family where she was emotionally abused. Because of that she spent a lot of time by herself as a shut in introvert and managed to become incredibly intelligent from exploring the internet and studying tech, albeit very challenged when it comes to her physical development and real world experience so you help her experience and learn new things and grow as a person and she also becomes dependent on you for comfort and protection.
