Yea but weve already seen that republicans and elites are unwilling to do anything about that. At least little programs like this can help alleviate the problem for a bit.

This has already been going on for a while. Last year it was called the EBB gave $50 off your internet, now its called the ACP which is $30. I don't know wtf this new one is , but programs like this have been going on for at least a year

The thing is, this is issued by other providers, its not like actual a gov't internet program or anything. Meaning thats the catch, these providers are extremely shady and usually tack on other shit these people can't afford or try to entice them with other services. The internet companies like AT&T are licking their lips with all the poor people they can screw over and hoodwink just because they came to them for free internet.

A degree of internet should be free, but I can't imagine decent internet for gaming and streaming being sustainably free at all.

This is a good move for sure, I just wish Biden or whoever would push for decent internet in more areas that literally dont have it. There there are plenty of people who can pay for good internet but literally have no access to it due to where they live.

Its just straight up not offered in many places. If you live in a more rural area youre essentially forced to pay premium prices for shoddy satellite shit that you cant even online game with.

I hope we can start to do that next. You have plenty of people who are desperate for good internet but the big companies just say fuck em.

High-speed Internet is not a luxury any longer. Its a necessity, President Biden said in remarks announcing the program at the White House Rose Garden.

Hey, somebody finally figured it out.

But yeah, as someone who is homeless, I can tell you right now that not having steady access to the internet pretty much cut me off from the world and not being able to do jack shit because everyone and everywhere wants you to go online to fill things out. Toss in a couple years of public wifi joints being shut down due to the pandemic, and I feel like goddamn Rip Van Winkle these last few months.

Ironically, I would probably qualify for this free stuff in the same way I qualified for Section 8 ...except my voucher expires on the 18th so I'm going to end up back on a 4+ year waiting list to try and get housed again.

This is still great for anyone else who needs it of course, it just sucks that I'm going to miss the window for it myself.
