Lots of hype, most of it was from the trailers.

And it didn't live up to any of it at all. The Cameo's were just cameo's, nothing interesting was done with them... except getting killed off in pretty gruesome ways lol. This film scratches the surface on what you can do with the multiverse.

As someone who didn't follow any news or leaks, I found it enjoyable. I didn't really have any expectations since I don't super care about Doctor Strange outside of him being a decent support character.

If you were only going in for the cameos, then yeah, I can see why you'd be disappointed since there weren't that many, and the ones that were there weren't really anything more than backup characters who barely had screen time. My friend personally was let down because he was hyped to see Tom Cruise Tony Stark which ended up not even happening. (I guess it's a lesson in not letting leaks and rumors color your expectations.)

But if you like Strange or Wanda, or a fan of creepy/cool stuff happening, you'll have a good time. Sam Raimi's directorial style seeped in and was nice to see, along with some neat musical choices.

Not one of my favorite MCU movies, and the plot's kinda messy at times, but I found it visually cool to watch, especially the horror-y elements. Felt very different from the MCU's usual stuff. If anything, I think parts of it were kinda rushed and could've gotten away with being another 10 minutes or so longer.

People complaining about the cameos

they're throw away variants. And they were bossed by the strongest being in any universe. This doesnt mean John Krasinski still cant be Reed Richards or that Patrick Stewart cant be Prof X.

they introduced a character who can travel between multiverses at will. Thats a pretty big deal within the MCU right now and I assume will be a big deal once Kang is formally introduced.

it wasnt a 10/10 marvel movie but it had a lot of great moments.

I dont follow the comics but its crazy how Wanda went from a support character to the strongest being in any universe. She was never weak but she was never portrayed as having the ability to solo the Avengers with no difficulty. In the end they still didnt even beat her. She beat herself.

This. Wanda has pretty consistently scaled upward in strength as she's learned more about her powers and then she skyrocketed exponentially with the Darkhold.

think of it this way. Compare her to Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel got her powers from an infinity stone.

Wanda had strong latent powers that were AMPLIFIED by a stone. Plus access to the dark hold to further amplify her powers.

shes currently or was the strongest character weve seen on screen thus far.

Captain Marvel went 1v1 with Thanos and she beat her while fighting three other people at the same time. Im not saying Wanda wasnt strong but she couldnt stop Thanos and couldnt save Vision but now all of a sudden she is the strongest person in the MCU?

It just didnt seem right.

wanda has held back since civil war and up until post end game.

Wanda in wandavision unlocked a lot more power once Agatha agitated and tickled her.

then getting the Darkhold and learning more potent chaos magic.

Captain Marvel is strong - but Wanda can literally bend the fabric of space, time and all reality to the molecular level.

thats why doctor strange could not let her get Americas power.

Saving vision wasnt possible. Thanos had 5 stones. No version of wanda, even in this one is beating that. Thanos with multiple stones=ultimate being we've seen in MCU

She absolutely would beat thanos if they were in an arena. He called an airstrike to get away from her and then she wanted to the girls team up scene instead of going for the thanos kill

In her debut film, Wanda was able to brainwash and incapacitate like 4/6 of the Avengers all by herself.

Keep in mind that's a different Captain Marvel. Who knows how strong Maria was in the Illuminati universe.

As for your second example, Wanda was able to not only hold back Thanos (who had 5 stones at the time) at the end of IW (something no one else was able to do), but she did this while also destroying an Infinity Stone. That's impressive as hell. Then she almost solo'd Thanos in Endgame.

And all of that is without the power of the Darkhold.

The Darkhold is also ridiculously evil and powerful in terms of how it grabs people and amps them up.

In Agents of SHIELD (dubiously canon but whatever) it corrupted an AI and expanded her thought processes to a crazy degree.

I was worried the movie would rely too much on nostalgia and cameos like Spider-Man: NWH, but it really didnt.

Really my main issue was I didnt think the justification was strong enough for how Wandas character changed. I guess that wasnt a cameo so maybe I worded that wrong.

It was a good movie and it was entertaining. I just expected a little bit more.

The name of the movie isnt really fitting at all. The name makes it seem like the movie is about the multiverse itself or that the great threat is this multiversal issue or something but it really isnt. The plot is an earth 1 issue and they just happen to travel to other universes throughout the course of the story. I enjoyed it nonetheless and am glad the cameos were just that.

Mild Post credits spoilers and Dr Strange 1 spoilers:
Im curious about the direction that their story is headed though. The post credits scene seems to imply more Multiversal shenanigans are coming, but Baron Mordos arc from the first movie has still yet to be addressed. Mordo decided that there were too many sorcerers on Earth 7-8 years ago at this point in the canon. Why hasnt he tried to kill Strange yet?

Strange mentioned to America that Mordo's been trying to kill him since the first movie. Since Mordo never mentioned that being his intention when he parted ways with Strange at the end of the first movie (it was only a goal he came up with later), I can only assume Mordo's been trying to kill Strange on-and-off for the past couple years, off screen.
