Beating its best placement ever, probably the world's most famous shounen series ever.
The show is filled with memorable battles, iconic villains and probably influenced many a playground fight.
It's easy enough to follow and be engaged in the increasingly high stakes showdowns, but you also get to have a ton of laughs and the original DBZ run had one of the funnier filler eps.
As far as action series go though, this still holds up!

Well after years of being the only Steins;Gate trader I was certainly surprised to see another one pop up, thanks, duck! Writing had been on the wall for awhile now though that this was gonna be the finals. Dunno if I'll be back for this next year, bit of a stressful time commitment and I don't think Steins;Gate can win but we'll see. Dunno if I'll be voting in the finals either.

Steins;Gate is also good, I'm sad I never really got to help it out. Top three is still an amazing accomplishment!

I missed both of the previous two rounds, somehow. Still, this is a great finals by my books considering what I'd even seen in the top 20. Antarctica got there without me even trading for it once despite being my favourite of the lot, and I'm hoping it'll win. Definitely gonna watch Odd Taxi after this, though, because I've heard nothing but praise for it.

Steins gate

If Oddtaxi wins out of nowhere it's gonna be impressive.
I couldn't tell that Odokawa was being voiced by Hanae Natsuki at all, I associate him more with the young boy roles he played like Tanjiro from Demon Slayer, or Arima from Your lie in April.
In this one he's a much more brooding and jaded presence.

I mean I was still able to tell it was Hanae, it's only his tone that mainly changed. The voice itself doesn't sound all that different from his other roles. It was refreshing to hear him voice a much older character though.

This is a good final. Has there been any other time where the finalist is an anime that aired in the previous year that the contest ran in?

I assume Hero Academia aired in the previous year of its final or possibly even the same year but Im not gonna fact check

Mob Psycho's rise is mostly due to Season 2 and 2019 it placed 8th right after airing and the year after it made the finals.

Monogatari did make the finals in between Kizumonogatari wrapping up and Owarimonogatari

One Piece is obviously continuously airing throughout

One Piece made a final once, and I'm pretty sure it had aired some episodes in the year beforehand.

Now if you mean has anything made the year after it premiered, this would be the first time. I think even Antarctica might be closer to its original airdate than any finalists in previous contests.

Mob Psycho's OP taught us how to count in 2016 and it made the finals in 2020
A Place Further than the Universe is a 2017 debut versus a 2022 finals entry

If Antarctica wins, that's Madhouse's 4th win with HxH 2011, Monster and Death Note already securing wins. It would however be their first original work. Though I guess chapter 1 of the manga was 1 week before the anime's first ep.

Meanwhille Oddtaxi is coming in hot with a studio mostly known for making anime versions of kid's merch with Inazuma 11, Pokemon, Yo-Kai Watch, cardfight and Beyblade among their other works. Though they also did Berserk in the 90s.
