Ive been having this same mental dilemma for about two weeks now since I heard about it.

i used to smoke cigarettes.

methols were my jam

but uh.. i guess this is good

I use to smoke Menthol lights years ago. A lot of my friends still do and they are PISSED at this.

Why are menthols worse? I vaguely recall something about fiberglass.

People always associate them with black stereotypes but honestly I've known way more rednecks who smoke them

the supposed reason is because kids will smoke menthols, but Ive never heard of a kid starting to smoke for the flavor. They do it because it looks cool/their friends do

I live in MA and they banned menthols last year but now people just drive to other states to buy them since NH is cheaper anyway

Menthol is the only flavor that wasn't banned, back in 2010 or so.

It's all about the Vapes, now, lads -- The Cherry Vampire Blue Liquid Ice flavor is the best.

I've always viewed all cigarettes as trashy but people should be able to smoke whatever they want as long as they're not in a public building/transit or someone's house/car/business who doesn't allow it.

It's a meaningless ban anyway - "inject your own damn flavoring" kits are all over Amazon.

IIRC when they talked about this before their reasoning was that kids will generally start smoking with menthol cigarettes. I don't know how true it is but I do know I started with menthol. (Marb Menthol -> Marb Reds -> Camel Wides -> Quitting)

Edit: Now that I think about it my very first cigarette was one of the flavored camel ones that they got rid of years ago. They would come in a tin.

I bet if anything this was a push from Marlboro to get rid of competition as weed/vapes/delta 8 has cut into their market

Strongly disagree. As a former menthol smoker, I would have quit if menthols were banned. On those occasions I ran out and needed to bum, I'd only bum menthol or if no one had menthol, I'd do without. There are a lot of menthol smokers that think regular cigarettes are fucking nasty. Banning menthols sure as hell guarantees that I stay quit, more than any other singular factor ever could.

Non menthol flavored cigarettes have been banned for a long time. One of the biggest criticism of that bans is that menthol was literally the most popular flavor so why ban all the flavors nobody was buying anyway?

The ban was transparently influenced by tobacco lobby.

I dont feel bad because unlike so many here I am actually pro-choice. I absolutely support a womans right to get an abortion for whatever reason.

I also support an adults right to smoke or drink if they want to.

Youre either on board with a persons right to do what they want with their bodies or youre not.

To be fair, smokers get pissed at every step made to push cigarettes out the door. They are pissed when taxes on them go up. They were pissed when no indoor or on-flight smoking was banned. They were pissed when other flavors besides menthol were banned. It's honestly nothing new.

The menthol masks the effects (and taste) of the cigarette, so people smoke more of them

think of how cough drops have menthol in them. Menthol cigs are basically designed to counteract the irritation of inhaling smoke.
