Arnold Schwarzenegger has adopted a largely plant-based diet in recent years, espousing the benefits on both a personal health and fitness level, and environmentally. And while he is "not 100 percent vegan," and may still eat meat occasionally, the seven-time Mr. Olympia winner does not subscribe to the idea that you need to be eating chicken or beef to see gainsor be a man.

"Theres no one that can relate to it better than I do because Ive lived in that world," Schwarzenegger said in the 2019 documentary The Game Changers, which explores the rise in veganism in strength sports. "'Steak is for men'... They show these commercialsburgers, George Foreman with the grill and epic sandwichthis is great, great marketing for the meat industry, selling the idea that real men eat meat. But youve got to understand, its marketing. Its not based on reality."

In the latest edition of his newsletter, Schwarzenegger responded to a fan asking about some of his favorite "go-to" plant-based meals, and offered up two tasty-sounding suggestions.

"Every night I eat a cucumber salad with pumpkin seed oil and a vegetable soup," he wrote. "Pumpkin seed oil is a huge deal in Styria, the state in Austria where I was born. And it is delicious."

He then explained that after a training session, he tends to stick to the same post-workout protein smoothie. Schwarzenegger shares the full shake recipe in the YouTube video below, mixing cherry juice, banana, vanilla-flavored plant-based protein from Ladder, and water. Then, on some occasions, Schwarzenegger will add his own special ingredient: "A little schnapps, directly from Austria."

I dont judge them, but eating meat is one of the worst things you can do for the environment and sustainability of food.

It would depend (on the society), if a woman could not bear children (or did not have a partner) and was fast enough she'd be hunting, and the men who were injured (perhaps from a young age) would gather. This isn't the evidence you think it is. It's about two modern societies that still do hunting and gathering in 20/21st century. When people say hunter gatherers they are talking about pre-human civilization dating back hundreds of thousands of years. Our ancestors, not people who are still alive today.
