Oh, I remember some kind of behind-the-scene thing talking about that episode too. They talked about how incredibly nerve-wracking it was to film because they literally burned the barn down and that wasn't the kinda thing you get a second shot at. It worked out really well because they weren't expecting to get that shot of it collapsing.

"Hershel, BTW his shotgun has like a 50 shell stack or something. He just kept firing with never reloading. But I think I am liking Hershel."

1st Round: 9 Shots
Cutaway to something else happening.

2nd Round: 4 Shots then SHOWS HIM RELOADING!! This round happens while Lori and Carol are on the porch arguing about where the heck Carl ran off to
Cutaway to something else happening.

3rd round: 7 Shots This set of shots is while the women are running away/getting eaten from the house to the car.
Cutaway to something else happening.

4th round: 10 Shots THEN RELOADING This is the final Herschel/Shotgun scene where Rick saves him while he is reloading.

Season 3 Episode 2 - Sick

Zombies - Zombie can tear off its own hand and use the remaining bone as a spear when handcuffed.

Hershel is rushed back to Cell Block C with the rest of the group and they try to save him. The 5 prisoners follow the survivors. A deal is made, food for helping clear out the cell block. The prisoners can't find zombies for shit to start, going for shivs and stuff. So the group shows them how to do it. The big guy, Tiny, wonders off and gets zombie speared in the back. So the nominal leader of the prisoners kills him. The leader then intentionally opens 2 doors instead of one, nearly hits Rick with his weapon and then throws a walker on him. So Rick sizes him up and one shot kills him with machete to the head. This causes a third prisoner to run off. Rick foolishly chases him and then locks him outside to be eaten by the zombies, presumably.

In other news, Hershel survived, Carol wants to practice c-section surgery on a zombie, and someone is watching her. I guess it could be an animal or zombie, but 99% sure its a person watching her.

Wasn't shown in this episode as much, but Carl wants Beth. So when she admonished him for talking back to his mom, he acted like a bitch.

Lori is upset that Rick isn't treating her like he loves her anymore. I think this goes back to her reaction to Rick killing Shane but I'm not exactly clear on that.

CPR works on people still.

Two prisoners left, white guy that claims he was a druggie and black guy that the white guy claims is in for B&E but he's bad at it. It's possible both of them join the group, but I have a feeling one of them will be shown having a really dark side. I'm going hillbilly druggie.

RIP Tiny, prisoner leader guy, and small guy who ran for some reason.

Oh and Rick said at least 50% of the population is dead. That seems like a vast understatement. Like if there is 10% survivors at this point that would seem surprising.

8/10 episode. Good set up, still have some options to go from here.

That machete to the head was a good moment for Rick, no fucking around lol

Nah, hinting that Carl has a crush on Beth was definitely the intent of that scene in season 3, episode 1 (plenty of fans caught that). In season 3, Carl's character is 13 and Beth's character is 17. They're literally the only kids in the group at that point too. Totally reasonable that he'd have a crush on her.

Season 3 Episode 3: Walk with Me

Zombies - The two walkers on chains apparently kept other zombies away / uninterested as camouflage / deterrent. I hope they go into it a bit more in the future. Overall this is making black samurai woman look like a top tier survivor, maybe even beating Glen and Daryl.

Starts with a helicopter flying and crashing. At first I thought it was a call back to episode 1 but I don't think they were at all related. Andrea and her friend see it and are first on the scene. But then 2 trucks come full of men with guns. They surveil the scene, kill the dead that have turned. And Surprise! Here's Merle! Nonchalantly kills zombie with prosthetic hand spike.

A still sick Andrea, black woman and the helicopter pilot are taken to Woodbury (wasn't that an internet meme a few years back? Post an attractive woman and someone responds with "woodbury"? might have been a sword pun in there too?). 73 survivors, fences all around. Power, hot water, education for children, a doctor. Overall decent place to weather out the apocalypse.

Black woman wants to get out of there ASAP. Andrea wants to look around a bit more.

The Governor talks to helicopter pilot, gets info where rest of his people are. He goes there and kills them to get all their stuff. Interesting choice doing that right away. Dunno if it will be this season or later but clearly eventually Rick and the survivors will eventually cross paths with Woodbury. They could have left it ambiguous someone. Don't show the Governor killing even, having him just say "we found them already overrun, we brought back their materials to keep us strong" or something.

I'm wondering if The Governor has some deep dark secret that will come to light if people know his name. Like it turns out he is a renowned serial killer or rapist or something. Otherwise not sure why he doesn't share his name.

And to make sure we know he is bad, ends with a bunch of zombie heads in fish tanks, with newest to the collection being helicopter pilot and the two walkers with black woman.

RIP helicopter crew and the soldiers they were with. Too bad 3 or 4 of them didn't survive to team up with Rick.

8/10 episode. Set up issue for further development, it's got me interested. I do wonder how far away the prison is. Like they could be 50 miles away and that is as good as 500 miles in the apocalypse. My gut is that somehow Rick tries to take over woodbury because it is clearly superior. But I don't see how, they seem to be at least 15 fighting men strong, probably another 15-20 marginal fighters. The survivors realistically have 2 fighters at this point with some reserves.

Me personally, season 3 was a high point, the Governor is great.

I think the implication is that their ambient smell and the fact they don't attack her makes the other zombies think she's a zombie too.

Right, I want them to try to figure this shit out. Like 2 zombies with 2 humans gives some effect. How many humans does 2 work with? Further, does the herding mentality of zombies come into play here? Like the larger horde sort of ignores them and expects them to join up but a solo zombie more come towards them slowly to join them, sniffing the zombies first and then head shot with katana.

Further, she had them carrying bags. AWESOME. That's taking advantage of the situation. What sort of carrying capacity do zombies have? Let's churn em and burn em if we need to. Or does it take a while to train a zombie?

The Governer is the best villian ever.

Season 3 Episode 4 - The Killer Within

Zombies - Can't really think of anything this episode. Thought going back to last episode, did learn that zombies have to eat to avoid wasting away, though they do so very slowly.

Starts off at the zombie. Someone opens the gate and leaves guts for zombies. I thought back to small guy Rick didn't confirm that death of. Immediately after they go back to the 2 prisoners for a misdirect. The group discusses what to do with the convicts.

Go to Woodbury, we finally hear black girls name but I'm not sure on this, Misho or Mishone? Andrea gives Merle map to Hershel's farm to find Daryl. Governor tries to get Andrea to stay.

Back to Jail, the group is getting ready to leave to clear out zombies when an alarm blares, a fence is open, Hershel and Beth are out and seem to get safe in a cage. Lori, Maggie and Carl get separated. T-Dog and Carol get separated. T-dog gets bit while chaining a gate shut. That got me shouting at my screen for him to look out. Daryl, Rick and black prisoner guy (I think white guy is Axl?) go to shut off emergency generators. They come across guy Rick left for dead. Black prisoner ends up shooting him in a "whos he gonna shoot" moment between rick and guy left for dead. Generators turned off. T-dog further goes to sacrifice himself for Carol.

Lori says she's going into birth. She goes to push and lots of blood. Tells Maggie to give her a c-section and kill her to deliver the baby. She does, baby is silent, finally starts crying after maybe a 30 second pause. Lori dies, baby survives, Carl morns for a moment and the puts a bullet in his mom's head before she turns.

Rick is rallying the group to go find Lori when he hears the baby crying. It registers, he looks back and sees maggie crying carrying the baby and carl with blood on his hands. He seems to realize it but still asks about Lori, Maggie I think just shook her head and said she's gone or something minimal like that. Rick collapses.

RIP guy left for dead only to be killed by a prisoner.
RIP Lori. I guess you made Carl expendable now. Surely they won't kill an infant.
RIP T-dog. I was just starting to think you were an alright character too. Seemed like the only person remaining that could really second guess Rick at all. Died shutting the gate and then sacrificing himself, so he went out good.

9/10. Good pacing, high profile and low profile death. I mean how is the group still following Rick at this point? Hershel is out of action for a while at least in any capacity to take charge. Maybe Daryl or Glen could grow to be leader but now? No. Maggie, Beth, no. Carol actually seems closest to being able to do it. Like get the group behind her.

And when Merle asked to go look for Daryl, The Governor gave some "if there is any proof i'll go with you myself" and he has this vein throbbing on his cheek. I'm wonder if that happens when he lies. Or if he was enraged at being asked to leave by one of his needed people.

Just browsing through. As someone that quit the show I hope you keep making up your own mind about it. I definitely remember Hershel with the infinite ammo glitch. Watched it live and I thought it was pretty funny.

Same. I haven't seen any of the spinoff series either. I have played all the Telltale offerings, if you like this enough TC and want more story it may be something to look at. A few characters from the show come up or are mentioned.

i saw the first 2 seasons of fear the walking dead
its funny that the teenage daughter barely did anything in season 1 but in season 2 she slowly became the only cast member with common sense and grew to be pretty badass

Season 3 Episode 6 - Say the Word

Zombies - Really lazy after a full meal apparently. Though I suspect this was played up for story telling reasons for Rick to freak out.

Episode starts off with what appears to be a flash back, or at least that's what I thought they were trying. There is a brunette with a hair style done up like Lori's that from a distance kind of looked like Lori, everything is nice and bright and clean. But Woodbury is just having a party. I can't tell if the party is solely for Andrea's benefit or if the Governor is telling the truth and its about blowing off steam.

Andrea and Michonne fight about being free to leave. When they are free to leave, Andrea stays, Michonne leaves. Governor then takes Andrea to professional wrestling with zombie lumberjacks. Andrea is none to pleased, even though the Governor disclosed the teeth are pulled. Incidentally Michonne earlier killed a bunch of zombies which were allegedly being held for this very reason.

At the prison, Rick freaks and goes on a zombie killing spree. Daryl and Maggie go looking for baby formula, everyone presumes Carol to be dead I think (as I am writing this i am just now thinking maybe the caller at the end of the episode is Carol saying "COME GET ME"), the baby isn't yet named other than little ass kicker. Carl apparently only knows the names of dead people, so if he's got his choice its going to be Sophia. If Carol is alive I don't think she'd like that.

Episode ends with Rick in the room where Lori died, with the zombie that ate her corpse, he's dissecting it or was done when a phone rings. If its not carol, it might be Rick is hallucinating and thinks he is talking to Lori and gets some closure.

7/10 episode. A bit boring for me, but ok with that as a mourning episode.

I kind of took it to be that eating a whole-ass person meant he just couldn't physically move.

Kind of funny that this is the first (only? I quit halfway through this season) time you see a zombie actually fully eat someone.

That probably makes more sense than the zombie having that itis.

Season 3 Episode 3 - Hounded

Zombies - again the Guts tricked worked for Michonne's behalf. Nothing else of note.

Episode starts with Michonne being tracked by Merle and 3 named but unimportant characters. She kills a zombie and arranges it's arms and legs to read "go" and then has the torso so the back is showing. Go back. Fun stuff. Michonne drops from a tree, kills 2 of them, gets shot by Merle but escapes. Merle and other go chase after. Eventually Merle has had enough after she almost gets them done in with some zombies and gives up. Other guy wants to keep going so Merle kills him. Merle then heads off to find a car.

Rick is going crazy talking to dead people. The fact it is dead people isn't revealed until the end when Rick talks to Lori and they make up or something. Up until they said his name without him revealing it I was thinking "well, maybe its like a direct line from the (real) governor's mansion to the prison" or something like that but was assuming it was just Rick being crazy.

Andrea and the Governor bang.

Glen and Maggie go to get supplies, infant formula and other stuff. Michonne comes across them and hides and watches. Merle comes across them, first aggressive, then acting friendly, then attacking when they won't bring him to the prison. Takes Maggie hostage so Glen drives them to Woodbury.

Episode ends with Rick finally interacting with the baby, and seeing Michonne covered in guts coming to the prison fence and the two of them giving a strange look. Like I half way expect Michonne and Rick to know each other. It wasn't just a look of surprise like, it seemed like it was a look of knowing. I'm guessing its something like Michonne is a federal agent that worked with a Rick on some case 5 years ago or some shit like that. Or maybe Rick's actor just overacts everything.

6/10 episode. I changed my mind. It was a dull episode.

If they initially were like 20' away or something i could get that. But he had to walk quite a distance from the inner courtyard to the outer fence to see her. He had a look of knowing on his face the entire time, no way back there he could have seen her with baby supplies.

Or I'm just reading too much into it.

S3 E7 - When the Dead come Knocking

Zombies - The Woodbury Dr. wants to see if Zombies retain basic memories. He has been conditioning a dying man to answer simple questions that are deeply personal (name, family members) by raising his hand. Zombie fails the test miserably.

Michonne passes out before being let in the prison.
Merle starts interrogating Glen for the location of the group. After beating him up, Merle lets loose a walker on Glen while Glen is strapped to a chair. I was pretty sure here Glen would survive but thought there was a chance he would die

Back in the prison, Rick sees Carol for the first time since Lori died, nice reunion scene. Michonne really trusts no one but seems to trust the group a lot more than Woodbury. Still very interested in her background. New guess is she was adopted and grew up in teh system and can tell a fake bond vs a real one and could tell at least the people in the prison are all really looking after everyone? Maybe she was a special agent after that. Like there seems to be something cop like in her with how she observes people and her surroundings.

Back to Woodbury, The Governor acts all rapey with Maggie. Doesn't rape her but makes her know he can do whatever he wants.

Ends with the group + Michonne going to rescue Glen and Maggie from Woodbury. Rick and Crew are just outside of the gates and its night. Seemingly next day, Merle and his henchman will go search for the prison.

Increasingly, the Governor's group while large is looking really weak. Like they might be able to hold their own defensively against a frontal assault, but I wonder what their actual war potential is. I think they out gun the group but most seem pretty incompetent, hence Merle's position as one of the few legit survivors. Like I halfway expect that a group of 10 walkers let loose inside the walls would take everything down if Andrea, Merle and the Governor aren't there.

8/10 episode. Proving increasingly to the group, humans are a bigger threat than zombies. Merle, Michonne, The Governor, all impressed the group managed to clear out the prison with only 10 people. Glen and Maggie aren't out of the woods yet, I think the rescue will be successful but that is not guaranteed by any measure.

yeah one thing walking dead does well is give a sense of danger because its willing to kill off major characters pretty frequently

of course it has a lot of fake outs which can get annoying so when a character is put in a dangerous situation you actually worry about them because the show set precedent where you know there is a chance they wont be saved

S3 E8 - Made to Suffer

Zombies -Limbs are weak enough a man of average size and strength could pull them off.

Starts with a group of new survivors. Tyrese, Sasha, a husband and (bitten) wife, and adult/teen child of them Ben from what I can gather. No idea on their background but first instinct is they need to be absorbed into the group. Tyrese and Sasha at least seem to be competent survivors.

Back to Woodbury, Glen rips off a walker's (or biter as The Governor calls them) arm, tears it apart and gives Maggie a bone shiv. The group is on the perimeter trying to find a way in. Michonne disappears but comes back with an entrance. Group gets in some random building through the back door or something? Not exactly clear how they got in.

Back to the prison, Carl hears screaming (that bitten woman can scream). He goes to investigate. He kills a few walkers, easy peasy shoots one with the bullet flying inches from Sasha's head. He Tells the adults to follow him. Only Tyrese really keeps his head, definitely the leader of that group. Carl brings them back, offers to put a bullet in teh head of the now dead bitten woman, but Tyrese says he'll take care of it. Carl then locks them in. Sasha freaks out by Tyrese chills her, thanks Carl. Beth gives a "Shouldn't you help them?" to Carl who gives a cold "I did." Carl is turning into something of a badass. Like a kid that cold as steel is killing zombies and willing to put a bullet in someone's head? Stone cold there.

Oh and earlier at the prison, Axl is hitting on Beth, thinks Carol is lesbian, finds it "interesting" to learn she is not, she does not find it nearly as interesting as Axl.

Back to Woodbury, Glen and Maggie are going to be moved or something done with them, unclear what. I sort of suspect they will be either summarily executed or turned into zombie entertainment? Regardless, upon opening the door Maggie shanks some guy with her bone shiv. He dies, Glen attacks Merle, is able to keep both of them alive, but gunshots happen, the survivors hear that and converge. More of the Governor's men come to move Glen and Maggie. 3 smoke grenades and they are able to get Glen and Maggie surprisingly easy. Daryl learns Merle is alive and there and wants to meet him but convinced(?) not to. Group tries to leave, seems like they kill at least 4 more from Woodbury. Oscar (black prisoner) dies in the escape. I was disappointed in that, I wanted to know more about him. He had already redeemed himself for any pre-apocalypse crimes by saving Rick IMO. Oh and just before Rick escapes, he hallucinates Shane was with The Governor. Rick is crazier than he lets on, apparently.

Michonne enters the Governors house, sees his fish tanks full of heads and his zombie daughter, not know she was a zombie right away (that sort of surprised me. I would have thought she would smell it or when touching the girl feel she was cold or something). She kills zombie girl, Governor freaks the fuck out, she stabs him in the eye with a shard of glass from zombie fish tank.

Anyway, Daryl gets caught, Merle is turned on by the Governor who says Merle led them here. Daryl and Merle are sharing the screen for the first time (well, not counting hallucinations from season 2). I'm worried for Daryl. I have no doubt Merle is willing to kill Daryl to save his own skin. I really don't want Daryl to die and still have at least... 75% certainty that he will ass pull some plot device to survive (the group shoots out all the lights and Daryl fires a grappling hook from his belt or something, I dunno). But this could be the end of Daryl as we know it...

RIP Oscar. We hardly knew thee.
RIP lady that was bitten and mother of Ben.
RIP like 5 or 6 guys from Woodbury.

10/10. Really good episode IMO.

I'm starting to question Woodbury's strength.

They were at 73. Merle lost 3 men. They killed 5 or 6 I think tonight. Lost the guy in the previous episode they were doing the experiment on. I'd guess Woodbury has 10-15 kids. Of the original 73, half women. So originally 29/30 men to work with. Down ~10 already, so maybe 20 men left. Of those, at least half we have seen are fat and not fighters. I think at this point if the Governor has 12 competent men, I would be surprised, especially if he doesn't use Merle.
And Andrea has some thinking to do.

like he keeps his walker daughter around cause he cant bear to kill his little girl.

in the comic he was basically a cartoon bad guy only rated R and he kept his zombie little girl around cause he was having sex with it

I'm really enjoying reading what you think of the show. This is fun to see fresh eyes on the series.
