from what i heard they told carls actor they wanted to renew his contract for 3 more seasons
he had just turned 18
so he bought his first house near where they filmed and close to the college he wanted to attend so he could do both

then they suddenly killed him off screwing the actor over really badly and pissing off fans and the cast itself

S8 E9 - Honor

Title reference - Quote from Carl to Judith.

We see the same future Rick from S8 E1 Mercy and he gives the same quote that his mercy prevails over his wrath.

This is the Carl death episode start to finish. Jumps to Rick and Michonne digging a grave a few times. Jumps to Future Rick with a longer beard a few times. Jumps to immediate past Carl showing him getting bitten while saving Sadiq. Shows Carl writing notes for everyone he loves, spending quality time with Judith.

Showed how the Saviors escaped and where all the snipers went. Saviors were selectively shooting zombies to create a path out. Kind of half assed plan to be honest. But it worked.

Morgan follows Gavin to the Kingdom. Watches Zeke getting captured. Meets up with Carol. They go rambo and kill everyone but Gavin. Henry, the toeheaded kid that was Benjamin's brother kills Gavin. Everyone's dead.

Saviors leave Alexandria. Everyone but Michonne, Rick and Carl leave. Carl dies. Last words are to try to get Rick to not be such a psycho. He mourns the kid he killed in cold blood in Season 3 with Hershel witnessing. Tell's Michonne she's his best friend.

Ends with future mercy Rick again, blood on his hands and his shirt, maybe shot in the belly?

7/10. Again, shitty death for Carl. I would have killed off Rick before Carl I think.

It sucks too if you're familiar with the comics.

Carl received a lot of hate over the years, but even the people who hated him thought that was bullshit.

And yeah, the story is that Chandler was called in to a meeting one day to renew his contract but then they dropped the news they were killing off Carl, which upset both Chandler and his dad.

He did express a desire to want to go to college, bought a house close to where they were filming, then that bombshell was dropped on him. Apparently some of the other cast members were upset about it as well.

I thought it was the other way around. I thought he wanted out of the show so he could go to college and have less pressure on his time, so they killed him off.

Oh well, not the first time I had my wires crossed.

S8 E10 - The Lost and the Plunderers

Title reference - Not sure. Maybe the garbage people are the lost and Simon's group are the plunderers?

Rick and Michonne mourn Carl and kill walkers and pack up to leave. The hitch hikers back pack makes another appearance.

Rick gets a walkie off one of the dead saviors (why wouldn't the saviors take back the bodies of their own in a case like this?) Michonne tries to put out a pergola that is on fire that Carl used to sit on. Rick helps. But they are overran and have to abandon.

Michonne reads her letter and tells Rick there is a letter for Negan, too. Rick doesn't read his letter yet. They go to see Jadis and get the deal going again. They arrive and open the door and a pile of garbage blocks the door.

Goes to Negan, he tells Simon how Carl is a badass. Asks if the hilltop went well, Simon said it went as commanded. There is tension. Simon wants to kill more people, Negan wants to kill less people. Scene ends with the casket Maggie dropped being delivered to Negan with a nail gun. They kill the zombie former worker inside. Simon wants blood. Negan tells him to chill.

Enid and Aaron are with teh Oceanside. They bluff killing them and release them. Aaron stays behind, Enid goes back to tell Maggie. Boring.

Simon visits the garbage people. Demands an apology, their guns, and remorse. Gets all the guns. Kills one, then another, Gets punched by Jadis. Then everyone but Jadis gets killed. Negan told him to get the deal back on and drop no bodies. Simon then lies to Negan that everything went smoothly. Rick calls Negan on the radio.

Rick and Michonne fight zombies. See Jadis on a trash pile. She is talking normally now. She used to just make art here. Then zombies happened, yatta yatta yatta, leader of the trash people. Rick and Michonne leave. Jadis tries to follow but can't. She then makes it to some super grinder destroyer machine and bangs on steel and leads the zombies to her and they all fall into the grinder and are turned into zombie burger.

Rick has a bit of an emotional break. Pulls over and reads the letters, negan's first. He calls Negan on teh radio. Tells negan Carl is dead. Tells him Carl wants this to end. But he still going to kill him. Negan tells him Carl was awesome and he had plans for him, but this is on Rick and Rick lost and sucks at leading and at being a father.

7/10. The garbage people going out like that was lame. Jadis you either help at the end or kill, youd don't antagonize more. Seeing her people die twice seemed to have broken her to some degree.

S8 E11 - Dead or Alive Or

Title reference - No clue.

This episode pretty much sucked, basically a filler episode. Dr. Carson and Gabriel were escaping. Gabriel found anti biotics. Was caught at the last minute by saviors..

The Alexandrians are on foot and going to Hilltop. Barely a step ahead of Saviors. They go to take the Swamp at Dwights suggestion. There's walkers in the swamp but they clear it out. Tara keeps wanting to kill Dwight. Dwight > Denise. There, I said it. Denise sucked, Tara sucks. Tara going HAM on Dwight because you don't get t o change sides... Bitch don't you remember you were ride or die with teh governor? They finally make it after Dwight redirects the Saviors, putting his own neck out.

Maggie has to make teh decision how cruel to be to the prisoners. She decides minimal cruelty. They get as much food as Hilltop, they get to get out and exercise and work 2 at a time under guard.

Eugene has his own outpost making bullets. He also gets good food.

Felt like about 10 minutes of content with a 45 minute episode. 4/10.

S8 E12 - The Key

Title reference - A book full of plans to build cool shit is The Key, traded by Georgie (new character).

Negan welcomes back Dwight. Negan starts spilling walker guts and collecting them. Saviors are dipping weapons in walker blood. Plan is to injure people but them them go back and turn. They get ready to roll out. Simon tells Dwight to come with him. Simon tries to turn dwight.

Rick arrives at hilltop. Hugs Judith. Talks with Daryl. Maggie, whiles standing watch, spots something. It's a crate or something with a note asking to exchange records or food for the key to your future.

Rick is on some look out. Sees a convoy. Spots negan in the last vehicle. Rick quickly drives and rams into Negan's car with rather miraculous timing.

Simon keeps all the Saviors together and takes Dwight. They find Negan's wrecked cars and Dwight lights it on fire.

Rick and Negan fight. At points it was pretty good, at points it was way too choreographed. Negan tries to give Rick a new deal because Carl was so badass.

Maggie, Michonne, Enid, Rosita meet with a woman identifying herself as Georgie. She asks for records, not spoken word, but music, and food. Her friends like pickles and cheese. Maggie takes them hostage brings them back to Hilltop. Eventually agrees to the deal and gives Georgie some records. Georgie gives her a set of instructions for for windmills, watermills, and all sorts of medieval achievements. She wants Maggie to build this place up and have something good for when she returns.

Rick and Negan end up fleeing a burning building. Rick alone.
Simon and Dwight tell Saviors Negan is missing. Might show up but he's not here.
Jadis kidnapped Negan. Should have killed her or helped her.

7/10. The fight should have really raised it but this has been going on too long. No fight is cathartic at this point.

S8 E13 - Do Not Send Us Astray

Title reference - Sadiq quote.

Lookouts spot Saviors. Everyone is warned via horns. Prepare for battle.
Sadiq's credentials as a doctor are questions until he stands up for himself.
Hours later it is nightfall and the Saviors come. Simon DGAF about the hostages.
There are tire strips on the road. Lead truck drives over so they can't ram the gate.
Fire fight happens. Hilltop pretty well dominates. Tara gets shot by an arrow (might have been by dwight?), Simon was targeting her specifically so he may have saved her life. Tobin gets gut stabbed.
Carol and Tobin talk about her leaving with just a note. It was becoming too real.
Everyone keeps telling Maggie what a great leader she is.
Tobin turns. Turns 2 others. A few others that had been wounded turn. Kill maybe 4 or 5 others before they are taken down.
The idiot kid Henry lets the Saviors our because he's only got murder on his mind.
The savior that has been trying to turn since being captured helps kill walkers and other former saviors try to close the gates.
6/10 another rather filler episode. Equilibrium remains but just fewer people now.

S8 E14 - Still Gotta Mean Something

Title reference - Quote from Rick about a man's word.

Jadis flashback on how she survived the massacre (played dead and hit a body) Then show's her present or future? Nice room, very clean, not at all like a garbage dump, so I sort of think that is what she is doing somehow in the future? At present shows negan tied up.

Zeke ask's Carol to find Henry, she declines since he's clearly already dead.
Tara puts 2 and 2 together and realizes shes the only wounded person who hasn't turned and maybe she owes Dwight.
Rick still hasn't read his letter from Carl.
Diane reports to Maggie they don't have enough ammo for another defense like last night. Rosita reminds them that Eugene is a bullet maker and they know where the machines are.

Jadis acts like she is going to burn lucille. Negan somehow gets a flare, gun, and photos in 10 seconds while tied to a dolley. A strapped zombie is brought. Negan threatens to burn the photos. A fight happens. Flare is put out. Helicopter shows up. Jadis tries to get up and get another flare and signal them but is moments too late.

Rick asks the Savior turncoat where they might be staying. Turncoat asks Rick to bring them back, if possible.

Rick goes tracking. Carol and Morgan look for Henry (Morgan was going and Carol went with since Morgan has been crazy). Morgan has murder on the mind and just wants to kill zombies and people. Comes across Rick, wants to attack but Rick talks him down. They walk together, come to clearing, Rick is knocked out.

The Savior remnants got him. Jared wants to be loyal to Negan and turn over Rick. Most of teh rest want to take up Rick's offer of coming back and being part of t he community, since Simon just turned on them all. But zombies are coming. They let lose Rick and Morgan, fight together. Then Rick is a real prick and turns on them. Him and Morgan kill like 7 guys that were going to come back with them. Bad rick and morgan. Jared is killed too. Morgan holds onto him while zombies tear him apart.

Carol finds Henry and saves him.

Morgan and Rick return alone. Bloody. Morgan cries. He's broken. Rick reads Carl's note.

Rosita and Daryl decide to kill (take out) Eugene.

8/10. One of the better recent episodes. They still gotta wrap this shit up though and it feels no closer to conclusion.

S8 E15 - Worth

Title reference - Didn't catch it.

Rick reads Carl's letter.
Michonne reads Carl's letter to Negan again.
Gregory tries to get yet another deal from Saviors (simon)
Eugene has Gabriel making bullets. He makes a bad one on purpose, Eugene has him sit in a corner. Eugene goes outside to fire off a few rounds. Rosita and Daryl take him.
Negan's back and talks to dwight.
Negan meets with the brain trust. Looks like he's going to kill simon but forgives him. Has a plan to kill off Hilltop one by one.
Eugene is being taken back to Alexandria. Rosita and Daryl let him know there is no love on their side and he would be dead if wasn't useful. Eugene spots some zombies in a blind spot, causes himself to puke on Rosita and hides under ash and burnt debris and loses Daryl and Rosita.
Dwight copies the map of Negan's attack for Hilltop.
Dwight meets with Simon and other defectors in the courtyard. But Dwight narced to negan.
Aaron fights some zombies, drinks some water, almost dies. The ocean front people are now going to fight. yay.
Old school fight between Negan and Simon with everyone surrounding them. During the fight as Simon is losing, Dwight gives the map to Gregory and sends him to hilltop. Negan chokes Simon to death.
After the fight Dwight is escorted by Negan to his room where he sees the savior that was in his group that made it out. But Negan won't kill Dwight, he's making him his number 2 because the map was a decoy and now rick's ass is grass.
Eugene returns to the bullet factory motivated ready to fulfill his order (Negan is announced alive as he returns).
Michonne radios Negan and reads Carl's letter to him. Negan's mind is unchanged.

Felt like more filler, though decent filler. 6/10.

S8 E16 - Wrath

Title reference - Origin scene from where Rick says "My mercy prevails over my wrath".

Survivors are planning on using the map to plan an ambush
Saviors know this and are going for complete annihilation with a counter ambush.
Rick's group takes out the first group and finds a map giving them greater confidence. They march on teh saviors.
Rick leads his group to the ambush spot. Whistling. Saviors on the hill ridge. Shit. Negan orders them to fire. All the guns explode explode in the saviors hands. Eugene!
Rick and crew rushes up the hill to fight the injured but still standing saviors. Meh battle, survivors quickly overcome them, Saviors surrender in large numbers.

Saviors attack Hilltop. Tara stays behind to fight, some of the former POWs stay behind as well. Ocean city out of nowhere comes throwing molotovs burning the saviors alive. Toasty.

Rick and Negan fight. Rick says what about Carl? Negan gives him 10 seconds. Rick slits his throat at like 6 seconds. But then he has him patched up by the doctor. Maggie is not happy with this decision.

Tells everyone they are going home.

Immediately there is a change. Trade between communities. Helping each other rebuild. Dwight is freed by Daryl but can't return. He goes looking for Sherry and finds a new note from her apparently to go to their honeymoon spot.

Negan recovers and he's told he's going to be a prisoner to show everyone there is a new way.

Maggie and Daryl still want to kill Negan and Jesus is being told this.

6/10

That really was an unsatisfying way to end the Negan arc. This was padded out too long this season. This should have happened by episode 9 at the latest. Like the story arc itself is fine. Just too bloated in the telling. Season average was a 6.7. Season 7 average was a 7.1

I think season 8 is the worst of the series so far. Glad that is over.

S9 E1 - A New Beginning

Title reference - I think it is just literally this is a new beginning for all the communities, didn't hear any quoted references.

Looks maybe 2 years into the future from the end of the war? Judith looks 4ish to me. But Hershel (Maggies son) looked like 12 months maybe? So maybe more like a year, year and a half?

Rick is a bit grayer, Maggie has long hair and is looking MILFalicious, Carol has season 1 short hair, Gabriel has a cloudy cataract eye but can apparently still see, Enid is looking older, everyone else pretty much looks the same. Oh and Jadis' name is actually Anne, and she looks a lot more normal. I think she did something funky with her bangs or something as the trash lady?

Sanctuary has been stable because of Daryl but he can't take it anymore. There is grafiti suggesting that some people still want Negan. Carol takes over there.

Maggie has been running hilltop, there was a vote. Gregory ran against her. In the first mission of the season, one of her people died. Gregory tried to get Maggie murdered for that and stoked anti-maggie resentment. So she had him hanged.

Maggie also is being less lets all play nice and more I've got to watch out for Hilltop.

Sanctuary is in a shit location. They should have shut down Sanctuary after the war. It's an an industrial zone and they can't grow anything. Could be years of pollution or just when people were originally zoning realized there was no agricultural value there so they turned it industrial. Regardless, Sanctuary is being propped up by the other settlements. Stupid, stupid. Should have formed a new community in new place where they can grow.

The big mission to start is to go to the Smithsonian museum of natural history. This was really stupid IMO. They got a giant old horse drawn carriage, a plow, a really shitty canoe.

First, the canoe does literally nothing. Making a dug out canoe, having a finished example won't help, only trying it a few time. The carriage, they already have multiple fucking carriages. They didn't look as fancy but also weren't as heavy. The plow, I guarantee if they went to 10 farms within 50 miles of DC they would find an old plow like that. And then they got a bunch of heirloom seeds, which actually was a big get. I was expecting them to get like the original constitution or take some of the paintings or shit, maybe an old punch card computer that they were trying to recreate or something. Everything other than the seeds seems like the Key binder should have contained.

Michonne wants to draft a charter (not a constitution). It should have who they are, what they believe, and laws and punishments.

Haven't seen what Ocean city is up to.

7/10. Not a lot happened but it did set the stage for some interesting but not life and death episodes. Still interested in who those helicopter people are, surprised they did a time skip with that unresolved.

S9 E2 - The Bridge

Title reference - They are repairing bridge. Incidentally Rick says last episodes' title in this episode.

Rick tells Negan how well things are going. Seems like Rick is trying to convince himself as much as gloat to Negan.

Lots of people are rebuilding the bridge. Sadiq is teaching Enid to be a doctor.

Michonne goes to Hilltop to try to convince them they need a charter and get food for Sanctuary. Maggie says not until the ethanol is delivered. There was supposed to be a delivery but they never showed up and never went back to Sanctuary. Could be walkers or there is another group out there? Or the saviors are just defecting?

Henry is giving bridge builders water. One guy is an ass and keeps drinking when his turn is over. Henry knocks him down with a stick. The man is about to beat Henry when Daryl steps in. They fight.

Tammy is begging to see her husband Earl at Hilltop. Maggie eventually lets her. Starts coming around to the idea they need laws spelled out.

Rosita and... Laura? Set off some dynamite. Gets the attention of walkers. They have air sirens set up but the guy who tried to beat Henry doesn't answer his radio. Aaron loses his arm because of that. That guy is kicked out.

Maggie releases Earl. She's giving him another chance since Hershel was a drunk too.

Anne and Gabriel make out/ possibly bang. Later she sees a helicopter while on guard duty.

Carol takes Zeke's ring but won't let him give a big speech.

The guy that was kicked out is maybe attacked or something at the very end. Presumably more saviors that left / got kicked out?

8/10. Starting ok. I don't know the direction this is all heading but I am interested for now.

It gets better then it gets worse.

Youre gonna run into a good villain, and then you can tell they ran out of ideas.

There are no stakes. You know who is untouchable at this point. Characters have plot armor, because they are too popular to die. Other characters are boring and tiring. Some characters have lost their charm and needed to go years ago.

S9 E3 - Warning Signs

Title reference - Oceanside's old residence had "Final Warning" I think painted on the side. So a literal warning sign I guess?

Justin, the asshole from last episode, reanimates and walks by the "Final Warning" graffiti.

Rick, Michonne, Judith have a family day.

Maggie and some guy from Hilltop are bringing food to Sanctuary. They are stopped on the road by Jed and 5 or 6 other Saviors looking for Justin. Laura shows up at the end to talk some sense into them. Justin walks by and they see he is dead.

All the saviors building the bridge are pissed and blame everyone. When Anne/Jadis is blamed, she is only defended by Gabriel. After, Gabriel asks her if she did it.

Rick questions Daryl but Daryl uses the "if i'd of killed him i would do it in public" defense. It is very effective.

For some reason they do a grid search. I think they regularly do these around the bridge but that wasn't clear. Maggie and Cindy spot some walkers and Cindy guesses where there home base is. All the other grids are called for back up. Maggie takes out nearly all the walkers, Cindy takes out one with a garden fork, and Daryl does a last minute save. Maggie took out probably a dozen total, easy peasy. Grid 5 is missing though! Arat was kidnapped and oceanside lady knocked unconscious.

Carol and Rick are looking, Maggie and Daryl are looking. Daryl figured out who dunnit.

Jadis goes back to trashland and calls the helicopter people on the radio. INteresting. When she had Negan, I was under the impression she's never met the helicopter people. Now she does and has an established relationship. If she wants to join them she needs to bring an "A"? Gabriel shows up and asks whats up?

Jed and another guy ambush Rick and Carol, holding a knife to Carol's neck. They say saviors want guns. Rick acts like they are going to comply, Carol stabs the guy in the chest and tables are turned. They treat Jed.

Daryl and Maggie come across oceanside / cindy with Arat. Justin killed someones husband and Arat killed Cindy's brother who was 11. Daryl and Maggie leave allowing Oceanside to kill Arat. This is Maggie's world.

Next day Saviors are all leaving the bridge site. I suspect they are abandoning everything and not just going back to Sanctuary...

Maggie tells Daryl is times to go see Negan.

Ehhhhh, 7/10. Bit of a self contained story, seemed like big picture only thing of note was Jadis/Anne contacting helicopter people.

S9 E4 - The Obliged

Title reference - Not sure. Could just be the winners of the war or more specifically rick and michonne since theirs is the ultimate vision that so far has won out?

Michonne is a busy lady. She fucks, moms, charters, zombie slays all day every day.

Maggie leaves hilltop to kill Negan.

Carol tells Rick she is letting the Sanctuary figure their shit out while she goes back to the kingdom and gets some Zeke dong. Jerry tells Rick Maggie is going to Alexandria, they radio ahead so she can't get to Negan. Daryl offers to take Rick to Alexandria. They ride past the turn and Rick is all WTF? They stop, they fight, they fall in a hole. They talk, they escape, they cool.

Negan won't eat so Michonne tells him bed time stories.

Jadis has Gabriel tied up at the trashland. Threatens him with a zombie. Knocks him out. He wakes up in a cargo container with a note if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.

Rick rides a horse to lure walkers away from camp / bridge. Comes across another horde. His horse throws him and he lands on ruble, rebar going through his side. He passes out. A good foot + sticking out. Hordes are less than 10 seconds away. End of episode.

6/10. If they actually kill Rick, huh. I mean at this point it doesn't seem like it matters a whole lot. Michonne seems like a better parent than Rick. Carl is dead. So its about Michonne keeping the vision alive, convincing Maggie, writing that Charter. Rick could be saved by Jadis. Or Morgan, haven't seen him yet. Almost a parallel to meeting Glen in some ways. So maybe he's going to be taken in by another group? He passes out and is in a coma for a month and in that time they've brought him across the US and they are in California and has to make it back across with new Glen?

S9 E5 - What Comes After

Title reference - not sure, I feel like this was a quote from last season about life after negan. or could be a reference to end of an era with Rick.

Lots of Rick hallucinations. First telling his coma self time to get up. Then hallucination with Shane. Then riding his horse into Atlanta. Then Hershel. Then Sasha. Then Michonne. Strangely no hallucinations of Lori or Carl. I was definitely happiest to see Hershel.

Rick is able to get himself off the rebar with his belt over other rebar above him and lifting himself up. Impressive.

Jadis is trying to rendevous with helicopter. I am guessing an A = someone with value because of their brain. Doctors, Eugene, architects. "B" is a super fighter, strong survivor. Just a guess.

Maggie arrives to kill Negan. But she first talks to him. He talks a big game but she slowly realizes how broken and pathetic he is now and lets him live.

Rick is near death on the bridge with no more energy. The group shows up, yay! They are going to fight to save him. But he thinks they are are too many. So rick shoots dynamite instead. Gets washed down river with the zombies.

Jadis finds him, tells the helicopter she doesn't have an A, has a B that is very strong but needs help. Rick is saved.

Fast forward maybe 4 or 5 years? What appears to be an 8 year old Judith saves 5(?) new saviors and introduces herself. She should have said "They call me Ass Kicker". That would have been a better intro.

7/10. I have a feeling Rick is out of the show now until he needs more money and they do some spinoffs down the road. Episode was ok. I am interested in what happens next now. 5 years in the future the towns should be pretty awesome.

S9 E6 - Who are you now?

Title reference - Quote from I think Gabriel to the new group.

Last episode actually got me interested enough for another right away.

Michonne talks to Rick and Carl's memories or something.
Daryl spear fishes.
Carol has long hair... not a fan. She is supposed to take Henry to hilltop to learn how to fight or something? I dunno. Along the way they get ambushed by old saviors. Henry goes for the save and falls in the ambush. Carol of course kills them all afterwards.

Most of the episode is about whether the new group can stay. Eventually Michonne sends them to Hilltop, and she will escort. So not sure what happened that they aren't taking in anyone else but hilltop might.

Biggest thing is Gabriel wants to set up radio relays to communicate further. Oh and Gabriel is banging Rosita. WTF?! Anyway, Eugene sets up a relay, there is a big herd and they barely make it out with Eugene injured. Rosita is really pushing him not letting him confess and shit. At the end they try the Predator method of zombie evasion by covering themselves in mud. The herd walks by and the first time I watched it I was WTF and had to rewind it. '

Zombies are fucking talking. First watch all I heard was "don't let them get away". After 3 or 4 rewatches of the last minute, you can hear them saying "where are they" "They must be close" "don't let them get away". If you aren't paying any attention it sound just like groans and moans like normal but if you half pay attention you can make it out.
WTF?!?!

Are zombies evolving? Have they always been able to talk and for some reason this is the first we have heard it? The herd did a u-turn, is that because of intelligent zombies? How smart are they? WTF?

10/10 for the last 3 minutes. rest of the episode was fine, whatever, 7/10. Last scene has me asking lots of questions.

Legit creepiest, most OMFG moment of the series so far. Like going back to season 1, there were zombies using rocks and trying to climb ladders. I figured that was just Darabount having a different vision of the show than show runners that would come later, but im wondering if they are trying to tie all this shit together. Like helicopter people, I assume they have been the same group all along. Nothing to support that, but season 1 to season 9, that is my belief.

Going back to when Shane turned and I was thinking he was like a psychic zombie leader... I am thinking more about that again.

I really hope it doesnt turn to "oh, zombies are smart, we have to respect their desire to survive as well" or something.

S9 E7 - Stradivarius

Title reference - Michonne cuts a stradivarius in half. Boooo Michonne.

Starts with talking zombies again. Excellent! Rosita alone is running away. "She's dead. Get her. We're getting closer to her. Don't let her get away. This way." Crazy thought. Negan when he was talking to Maggie was talking about how he's connected to the dead and so is she. What if people as they are in the apocalypse, in the shit up to the necks, the longer they survive the closer the encounter and the more they are just attuned to the survival instinct, they can start to understand what the zombie moans are? Anyway, Rosita passes out.

Daryl, Carol, Henry go camping. Daryl is maybe not the best pet owner.

Sadiq tries to convince Michonne to let the group stay. Michonne's not hearing it. They go to hilltop. She accidentally cuts a violin in half. More and more I want them to keep the group. WTF Michonne?

Hilltop has a lot of crops growing. Some fields aren't fenced in at all though. That's asking for a zombie trampling. And one of the fields fences looks kinda week.

Daryl has been solo since Rick blew himself up. Carol wants him to protect Henry at Hilltop and she wants Daryl to be around people again. Henry "saves" daryl, daryl softens up to him, he goes with them. And they share a snake for dinner.

Aaron and Jesus fight. I was sure they were going to end up making out. A flare is shot, AJ arrive and rescue Rosita. Eugene is in a barn, alone.

Sadiq tries to convince Michonne to follow them all the way to Hilltop, telling her Maggie left. Apparently promised not to tell her. She is with... Georgie? The lady that wants the records and helps build communities. Michonne still won't come. Oh and the new group fights with michonne to kill walkers. But these walkers weren't talking the talk.
two hilltop soldiers come down the road and meet michonne and everyone. they tell her Rosita is there. she's heading to hilltop. deaf/mute girl notices something but can't put it to words

aaron, jesus, daryl head out to find eugene.

Not near enough focus on Rosita this episode.

8/10. Ok, I get it, can't give it away first episode. Was hoping for Eugene's perspective at least a bit. I want to see if there is any real intelligence or this is just "instinct" speaking. Like can they strategize? Also moderately interested in why Maggie and Michonne had a falling out and why she's so gates closed

Oh and is Michonne's kid Rick's? I hope so, his genes need to live on. And Judith is way too adorable. I don't see her coming from Shane. Are we supposed to question if she really is Shane's?

S9 E8 - Evolution

Title reference - Eugene thinks the Zombies may be evolving.

Before I get started. If anyone stopped watching somewhere between season whatever (7 or 8) and now and wants to know if its worth picking it back up at any point, you might want to stop reading and watch episodes S9 E6 through this episode before reading. Going in blind on this episode would definitely make it more enjoyable. So for all 0 of you out there, let you be warned.

DAJ spot a herd acting unusual. As they leave, one walker seems to notice. Moves very unwalker like.

Gabriel and Negan meditate. Negan doesn't take it seriously. Gabriel is upset. He goes outside and learns Rosita is hurt and at hilltop as he spots the messengers.

Michonne, Sadiq, & new crew come to hill top. Everyone is working the fields and gets in the walls quickly. Impressive. Yet sad as well. Tara is stone cold towards everyone. Carol and Michonne talk. Again, tense.

Henry is lonely and horny. Meets a new crew with an average girl and 2 guys. They get drunk. Henry kills a pit zombie. The city kids are sheltered.

DAJ become JADE as Eugene is found. He tells them the zombies whisper. Rosita will collaborate his story. They may be evolving. They are behaving unwalker like. The brain may be activating. Hell. Fucking. Yeah. They skeedaddle just as zombies are coming. Eugene still injured.

Daryl stays back to distract. But the horde ignores the distraction. The lead zombies start walking the direction they were headed before ignoring fireworks and dog barking.

JAE make it through a graveyard. Kill some zombies. Cant open the gate. Michonne shows up with the crew! They're pulling their weight! The gate is opened. AE escape as J fights. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Suddenly zombie dodges nimbly and stabs Jesus in the back and says "you are where you do not belong". Everyone berserkers and kills now nimble and fast zombies.

So as soon as the zombie dodged, that was beyond a doubt, those are humans dressed as zombies. I had my suspicions with the head turning zombie observing DAJ. So humans leading hordes. That's good. Not quite as cool as evolved zombies leading the horde IMO. Anyway, Jesus got one of the best deaths of the series. It wasn't out of nowhere, but the exact moment was a surprise.

Anyway, they kill the group of evo zombies, but do a scooby doo unmasking. Humans.

Oh and Negan walked out, his cell was unlocked.

10/10. I really debated 8, 9 or 10 on this one. The more I thought about it the more I had to give it a 10. I wish they had made the zombies evolve. That is primarily why I considered giving it a lower score. But for 42 minutes I was trying to figure it out. Are these humans leading zombies or evolving zombies?

If the zombies were evolving, that puts the whole new world on threat. A finite group leading zombies? Don't get me wrong, that is still a threat on par with anything met so far, hence it is still a 10. But evolving zombies. Talking. Strategizing. Ignoring traps. Shit. Like does your goal become we need to unite humanity and kill these zombies and keep our area safe?

As someone who was still fanatical about TWD during season 7, 8 was just abysmal. There were " reasons" for some of the decisions, but the writing and direction took a huge dive.

Interesting fact about Henry's actor(s). Due to the time skip, they replaced the original actor, Mascen Lintz with his older brother, Matt Lintz. Their eldest sister is Madison Lintz, the actress who played Sophia.

S9 E9 - Adaptation

Title reference - If a direct quote I didn't catch it, but I think its more that wearing skins is an adaptation.

Starts where last episode ended in the cemetary, they barely escape and bring Jesus' body with them.

Negan sneaks into Judith's room, steals a company, goes to escape. Judith has him at gun point but ultimately lets him go, but says if she sees him again she's shooting him.

Luke, the music teacher, helps Alden find everyone whos out based on what they heard from Rosita.

Whisper walkers are stalking Michonne & co. There is a bridge fight. Whisperer shot in the leg with arrow, the zombies still eat them so maybe a bit better than Guts but still not perfect. They take a whisperer hostage.

Negan kills walkers, finds a leather jacket, goes to the sanctuary, sees some zombie saviors. plays with them for a bit, then gives up and heads back to Alexandria. Judith shoots his tire on returning but lets him come back. A lot of people are looking for him.

Burial for Jesus. Whisperer girl interrogated but not effectively.

Luke and Alden follow arrows left by Yumiko. Keep following. Keep following. And whisper walker ambush.

9/10. I'm guessing Mother is the leader, not just her mom. And i'm guessing there are lots of people like this by now each with hoards they manage. I don't get how they eat. Like they are near the hoard until they need a bathroom break and lunch? Being with them all the time is odd, using them as defense and a weapon is smart.

S9 E10 - Omega

Title reference - No quote, I'm guessing Lydia, being the daughter of Alpha, is Omega?

Flashbacks of whisperer girl Lydia in the early days of the apocalypse in an underground shelter. Henry is still in the jail with her and hears some of her story. She sometimes asks about him and his people and eventually where he's from at which point Daryl takes Henry out. She's still the enemy.

Eventually telling the story, sneaking out to witness Hilltop, seeing a baby born into the is world, she snaps out of it and realizes her mom is a monster. She tells where the base is, and seemingly tells the truth she'll be forgotten about. End of episode, oops no, mommy dearest is here to see her daughter.

Throughout the rest of the episode Magna (is that her name?) and her group trying to find Luke and Alden while working with the knowledge that there are zombie shepherds out there and eventually give up.

Learned Carol had short hair so her first husband (it was something basic, Bob? Fred? George? Something like that) couldn't throw her around by her hair.

When Alpha shows up, deaf girl is hiding in the corn field. And she's got a sling shot!

8/10, might be a bit generous here. Alpha talking at the end took it down a bit. First time Negan spoke, spine shivering. First time Governor spoke, sophisticated, unsure of his motivation. First time we met the cannibals, fake friendly but cold. Alpha... "I am Alpha. And we only want one thing from you. My daughter." It has tense music playing but she sounds... slow. Dull. Not a fan of that casting as a first impression. Her story is fine, makes a good enough villain combined with the mask. But.. yeah.
