I support the movement but I do not support the organization and that video just further solidifies that stance.

Im opposed to cops unjustly murdering anybody however its clear in the U.S black Americans get messes with way more than anyone else by police

The core message makes perfect sense, but it was ultimately a fairly fractured mess, especially the organization of the same name.

Black lives have to matter in order for all lives to matter.

I support BLM at the concept level.

Black people have been abused and discriminated against for centuries in the US. People act like its a thing of the past but its not

Both the effects of the past live on and racists still exist. Especially in the police and justice system.

The problem is BLM never had any official leaders or agendas. Which you might think is a strength since it means BLM can never go away but its actually a weakness because it means the movement becomes aimless and fragmented

You get the rioters,
You get the Grifters (enough BLM grifters to rival Trump)
And you get the lunatics who are calling for the return of segregation or tax immunity for black people.

And since BLM has no actual official voice or agenda, these guys have as much legitimacy to reflect the movement as anyone else

So now instead of talking about cops senselessly killing black guys you're instead talking about riots or taxes or gangs in Chicago or segregation or whatever and the entire conversation focus has shifted away from the point.

Compare to the Civil Rights Movement. It had very clear spokespeople and very clear tangible goals

You can try to derail it (and people certainty tried) but you couldn't muddy the clear goals

The civil rights movement can win, (and did)

What can the BLM movement do to "win"? what change can happen in policy to make the movement end? There is none, its too disparate

The exact same thing happened to Occupy Wall Street for anyone who remembers that

A HUGE outpouring of passion and energy for a good but vague cause but no clear plan or agenda

I support the message and will always be 110% in support of people of color seeking justice and equity. Black lives matter, plain and simple.

That said, BLM as an "organization" is immensely sloppy and disorganized with seemingly no clear goals.

A necessary movement due to how fucked up the policing/justice system is in this country.

Any real and effective leadership in the black community tends to wind up dead or conveniently with legal troubles. You only need to look at Fred Hampton, MLK, Malcolm X, Huey Newton, and Bobby Seale to see it.

I like that you cut out all the ironclad reasons why it's a weakness and just ignored them. Which sums up the problem with BLM perfectly.

No, those are all weaknesses. If a movement can't "win" and achieve a goal, it's never going to be ultimately successful. Even though it also means it can't lose and will exist for a long long time. It'll exist in the background not achieving much of anything. There's no focus.

As well as discrimination in hiring and selling products. At least on paper.

Once the 1968 civil rights act passed, the civil rights movement had won. Any games trying to discredit MLK as a communist womanizer didn't really matter because the message was so clear.

The problem is there is no difference between the organization and the movement. If the American heart association was caught embezzling money I could give money to a different organization that helps fund research for heart disease.

So I think this poll was very poorly worded. Because it doesn't say whether it is the movement or the organization.

I don't see how anybody could be against the police using less excessive force.
