How is it?

its Chrono Cross. love it or hate it.

problem is, i hear, is that its a bad port. 15fps on a 23 year old game. oof.

It sucks for Steam. The frame rate is disgusting especially for a Remaster. It's tolerable for me but I highly doubt many will but at the same time a lot of people are saying the frame rate is the same for the PS1 but I disagree.

The game crashed for me when I leave Arni village saying I don't have enough memory or some shit. Was happening to a ton of people too. I went to the steam forums and had to install some sort of custom mod to get it working. I don't think Square has a patch for the error yet either. I think the issue is the game automatically tries to use the on-board GPU instead of the default one and it fucks up the game. It's terrible.

it runs really poorly with the "upgraded" textures/dialogue pictures, and not great with the original graphics.
there's an upscaler mod and fps mod that really make a difference if you're on pc.

The new sprites are proof that getting the old artist back does NOT guarantee a more faithful adaptation/remaster

When you think about it, it's not too surprising either. Imitation is flattery and all that; a ton of artists would be very happy to draw a higher res take on the original character portraits. But does the original artist really wanna be doing the exact same technique they did 20 years ago? Of course not, the journey of an artist is change and improvement and seeking the new.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it, serviceable but there are better ways to play it.
