"GTA makes fun of everybody" is a misnomer because they have never been overtly or deliberately malicious towards anything like that. I don't remember when a GTA game was like "Haha black people am I right?"

This seems like pure virtue signaling on Rockstar's part that no one would have noticed if they didn't point it out, though. Looking at the "caricatures" they removed... lots of Ts and crossdressers actually look like that? Every time I pull up Grindr anymore it's full of Ts who look about as "passing" or not even. Have the Ts become so intolerant now that they can't even stand a depiction of Ts who can't pass? Is it really even parody when it accurately reflects real-life?

Why not remove all the women in the game because some articles on Kotaku had issues with how GTA5 handled women?

for a while after 9/11 happened, the site had massive disclaimers all over the place about a zero tolerance policy to 9/11 jokes. Pretty much "If you fuck around about 9/11, you will get insta-banned"

I mean, I hate censorship as much as anyone. But bigotry has no place in the modern era. If they're making jokes at the expense of the LGBTQ community, that needs to go.

Remasters occupy a weird place that no other media occupies.

If you were to ask me if it was okay to censor an old movie, I would say hell no. Put up a fucking disclaimer. If you want to remake the movie, you leave the objectionable content out. But what happens when you're reskinning an old game for new hardware? You don't get the "just leave it out" option because you're doing a scene-by-scene, mission-by-mission recreation of the game in question.

Rockstar is doing the only thing they can do. It's not like they have to uphold the honor and integrity of a series which includes the words "posable vomit direction."

Also if you talk to the NPCs, Trevor/Michael/Franklin say stuff like You need more hormones! and you ain't fooling anyone! Gee I wonder why this was removed.

The people mad are the type to say "Sunny and Curb make fun of everything" completely missing the point of the jokes. The civilian border patrol in GTA 5 would be a far more controversial encounter if the joke was "Haha Mexicans sure are stupid illegals". The offensive humor they put up on a pedestal is far more reverent and respectful than they think it is. Most comedy is not just punching down on some minority or disadvantaged group with their existence being the punchline.
