Fentanyl contaminated weed is a thing but the people who buy it (and probably even the sellers) generally aren't aware of it and it's extremely high fatality. This has a huge boy who cried wolf syndrome since fentanyl ending up in weed happens in like 1 ounce per million tons or some shit like that and most likely by accident because the same source is selling multiple drugs.

Problems like these basically don't happen at all if it's legal because of legal liability.

Senators have to pull votes from the whole state they don't get the benefit of the house "safe" districts where they can blatantly vote against popular policies and still win because of the letter next to the name. I expect most of them will vote against it regardless but someone like Collins may vote in favor

Nope. Big tobacco is very much in favor of legalization. Many of them have all kinds of branding and shit already trademarked and ready to go in the event of legalization. And the writing on the wall is cigarettes are getting harder and harder to sell so they need to jump ship and fast. A lot of the land they use for Tobacco if not all of it can easily support marijuana as well.

The private prisons and police unions are the main lobbies that are against legalization.

The cartels themselves are probably funding Republicans
