They have a lot of feeling in their claws and if you're inexperienced even if your intentions are good, you can still accidentally cause a lot of discomfort and pain. Also just keep some kind of cloth you can tie around your arm. You will feel terrible if you fuck it up and your cat won't be too trusting for a while either. They sell cat claw/nail caps which are... ok. I like the idea a lot, but our cat pulls them off quite frequently so it's a bit of a pain. She usually has lost a few within a week. They are relatively cheap, but it can add up and be a little annoying having to replace them all the time. That said, even if your cat is an angel you still don't want to leave them on past 6 weeks or so since obviously their nails will continue to grow. Theres also a scratching carpet type thing I got off Amazon that my cats love. He will grow out of it over time and scratch you less. Mine are 6 now and never scratch anyone. I don't share the sentiment that it's cruel. You give them a lifetime of happiness and comfort in exchange. It's a fair trade imo Up to you I guess but it's the human equivalent of chopping off your fingers and toes at the last knuckle...
