Hate to say it. Been here almost twenty years off and on. But I don't really recognize many people anymore and I don't think yinz know me much. Kinda sad, like an old mall with a store front you could tell used to be an Auntie Anne's but is now just a reminder of what isn't anymore

It will continue to live in one form or another.

Exaggerated, but not mistaken.

The site as a whole, and PotD in specific, has been slowly dying for almost a decade. Every year a few more posters drift away, everyone gets older and more bitter, and anything resembling worthwhile social interaction dies a little more. It's the frog in the pot of boiling water metaphor - you might not notice because the change is gradual, slow, and minor, but one day you wake up and realize the number of active topics on PotD is 1/10th what it used to be and half the accounts are just people's shitty alts.

Even on the business end, the site's slow decay led the old owners to sell it off because they couldn't monetize it efficiently anymore, and the new owners are only making it work because they have smaller overhead. But eventually the site will wither too small for even them, and they'll either have to sell it off to someone else, or just let it die.

The grand irony would be if this entire thing just ends eventually getting sold off to a single owner, exactly the way it was when it started. Even more ironic if the final owner winds up being CJayC, who buys it back once no one else wants it.

But yeah, PotD (and GameFAQs) is definitely dying. The mistake is when people assume that dying means it'll be a quick death.

I'll be surprised if it survives the night

4 years before it's become sluggish with most of the normal people gone, but it will probably keep a low level of activity until the forum itself gets shut down.

I have personally scared off four PotDers (including TWO women) and killed two

I still check back every once in a while, but I doubt I'll ever become as active as I used to be. I wonder what the average age of active PotDers is these days. I'm guessing it is much older now than it was in the 00's and early 10's.

Considering it's all the same people and no one new ever joins, this is pretty much a given.

I am well aware of GameFAQs' declining userbase. I do not live in a delusion that PotD or GameFAQs will be here forever, especially when FAQs as a concept are not really relevant anymore. The reality is that GameFAQs should have died over a decade ago, but somehow managed to cling on even when the age of the message board ended in ~2010.

I watched Paradiso die. We're nowhere near that yet.

PotD has been very active to day. Usually first 50 posts track the past ~24 hours but today they only track the past 12.

I still remember a lot of people purely because of their Avatars during the GameFAQs-Avatars / xFAQs era.

I don't give a fuck about this dumb shit heap dying but if the FAQs go down and all we're left with is IGN wikis that randomly cut off halfway into a game or rambling youtube video guides I'll be very sad.
