If you were in public school at the time, did they roll the TV stand in to shwo you 9/11 (or turn it on if there was one already in the room)?

I was in 2nd grade, and this didn't happen to me, but between stories from people I know, and probably 1000 or more comments I've seen online, it feels like I've heard this all over the place. Almost the exact same story. The teacher rolls the TV stand into the room, turns it on and there the towers are on fire.

Most people couldn't even get to school that day, I was on the west coast and on a military base so the gates were shut down and nobody could get in or even out of the base until some pentagon level orders were handed down.

My memory is seeing the first tower on TV. My school was walking distance from my house, and my parents let me walk at the time (small town but still kind of crazy in modern context). I got to school, and I was the only one in class (lmao). My teacher was there, and I told her "A plane hit the building in New York City!" and she told me "It was two planes. Another one hit the other building." and I was like "Oh." I knew that made it more serious even as an eight year old.

We didn't get a TV. Some lady just walked into our class and informed us about what was happening. I remember not taking it too seriously. I thought it was just a typical plane crash. Then later in the day during my science class, our teacher painted a very clear picture. He was like, "the World Trade Center is gone." It wasn't until then that I had experienced my oh shit moment.

Not exactly, but every classroom did have tvs mounted on the wall. Every class was watching it all day wasn't much school work going on though.

History class was different, by then it was confirmed an act of terror and we listened to a speech and had to write a report about terrorism and it's effects.

I was already a working adult when 9/11 happened. I remember the internet was not responding. You couldnt open up any news website. We had to listen to a radio to find out what was happening. At around lunch they rolled in a tv to a conference room so we could watch the news.

I didnt see it on the news till the next day and at home. Pretty sure there was an ongoing typhoon so didnt have school but need to verify with old news.

Edit: yeah i verified with old news. Typhoon Nari and Typhoon Danas occured during this time period.

No. In fact when the principal and her cronies were going door-to-door explaining each class about what happened they skipped mine so we learned about it from the other kids at lunch. Which of course included all the kiddie purple-monkey-dishwasher additions like "the Russians did it", "the Canadians did it" and my personal favorite, "aliens did it".

My teacher's daughter was a fight attendant. She randomly got a call from her saying she was okay. My teacher had no idea what she was talking about so her daughter told her. The teacher rolled the TV to the front of the class and we saw the second tower get hit live.

I was in 7th grade Italian class. Another teacher came in, pulled my teacher out into the hall for a few minutes. When she came back we continued class like normal.

Through the rest of the day there were announcements of kids constantly being called to the office because their parents were taking them home (I live in CT). No one knew what happened, the best we were able to figure out was "a plane hit a building" and we were confused on why that was such big deal. I didn't know what happened until I got home that afternoon.

Yes. I was in History class. The teacher turned on the TV to show us some video, and the TV was on a news channel. The first plane had already hit, but not the second one. IIRC, she kept the TV on. I didn't know what the hell had happened. I almost thought that maybe the pilot of the first plane was drunk. It was only after the second one hit that it seemed coordinated. I definitely remember football practice being canceled that day.

In retrospect they should have just cancelled classes since neither the teachers nor the majority of students could focus that day.

We talked about it iirc, but not a lot of 3rd graders really knew what was going on unless their parents stayed home from work to talk to them about what was happening.

I knew it was a weird morning though when I got up and after my shower, my mom, who had left for work awhile before I even woke up, had left the TV on from when she was watching the news that morning which had literally never happened before.

I probably would have been extremely confused if that didn't happen when my teacher started to talk to us about it.
