I am intrigued by this frenzied flame and would like to learn more

it's simple, this world is disgusting and flawed. the greater will has steered man in the wrong direction over and over, and sweet cleansing flame can burn away every mistake

I'm about to finish my third playthrough and can confirm that Rivers of Blood(but really Corpse Piler) is stupid. Eleanora's whatever also had a good weapon art for staggers.

Did a bit more exploring and I'd like to say that Ulcerated Tree Spirit is the first boss that seems like true and utter horseshit. It's a giant slug tree monster in a tiny-ass room that flings itself around at high speed meaning the camera completely shits itself the instant you walk into the room. And this might just be me being underleveled (though every enemy outside was fine), but it had one attack where it'd fling itself forward with its mouth open. If it hit me with that attack, it'd stun me long enough that I couldn't avoid the immediate follow-up where it more-or-less eats you.

Also did the Spiritcaller Snail and the Cuckoo Evergaol. Didn't really enjoy myself tonight tbh, but I think doing that Stranded Graveyard dungeon soured me on the game a bit lol.

Worst thing about the game is enemies cant be hit on the ground but they can beat the ever loving hell out of you while you are on the ground.

Finished my third playthrough and got the last achievement I needed. I'm still interested in trying out the other Arcane weapons that caught my eye, but I might take a break from Elden Ring.

Yeah, I saw that when I looked him up. My hope is that the others will be in bigger rooms. He himself wasn't that hard to deal with, it was the camera fucking up.

The most annoying one is the first one you can technically encounter. The rest are in big areas.

So yesterday I did the double Iron Virgin encounter and it was probably the worst fight I've had so far in this game. I had to completely cheese it.

I just learned that there are three similar body pieces to what you are wearing (the cape hangs different). Spent over an hour farming for the monk body version. Gave up after getting about 18 pairs of the pants but no body.

As for the head, I'm partial to the altered flower hood. It leaves just the wreath of flowers.

Ah I didn't know there was a 3rd one. I managed to get the nox swordstress and night maiden armors. Only ever found the night maiden twin crown since I couldn't get the other helmet to drop. Yeah the altered flower hood is nice.

Fashion souls in this game can get annoying at times because the drop rates for armor can be a pain in the ass. It took me like two hours just to get the grave keeper's greaves yesterday, lol.

Its all good though the night maiden set is workin' for me at the moment.

Btw, what's a good spot to farm runes in the early game? I've opened up Liurnia of the Lakes, Caelid, Limgrave, and Siofra River. My thought are those dudes near the big dude that eats deathroot.

If you beat Godrick you can already get to one of the best rune farming spots in the game, about 5 million runes an hour if you set up and optimize.

Was my spot too. If you start from the grace by the bridge, you can get the jump and backstab quite a few of them.

For a one time boost, a night calvary spawns on the tiny bridge to the east nearby. It seems to just kind of die if you hop on torrent and run away to the north.

Next logical step of Souls is giving you an NPC party

i got a survey email from xbox research and design about the game, took a while, but i did it

This kinda requires online play right? Since I play offline only I guess I can't do the masked guy's quest.

I've heard about that quest. You have to invade someone else, but you can just immediately disconnect. The quest doesn't require you actually do anything.

this is my problem. I only need two endings. I took age of stars first. But i cannot stay focused on other chars.

the only things you'll be missing is a thing to invade (pointless without online anyway) and an item to take you to a late-game area early (arguably pointless)

It's really just Corpse Piler. It does too much physical damage in addition to the instant bleed prcos. It also has too wide an arc since bleed procs stun momentarily. If you could just roll out of it it'd be fine. Nerfing bleed or Arcane would make every bleed weapon garbage. The skill is the problem(even though it's parryable).

You can still get there without PvP but White Mask Varre gives you an item to teleport to the area.

Yeah I was thinking of trying to do the rune farming thing but I suppose I won't be able to do it before I get there "the real way".

I beat the Capital yesterday. I've briefly talked about feeling OP because of the path I took and what areas I did before doing the Capital. The boss before the main boss I killed in 10 R1 hits with my weapon.

After beating that and starting the Forbidden Lands i feel a lot less OP. I think it was because I did the whole underground area before doing Atlus.

I'm a bit confused as to the timeline of events here. How long has the Elden Ring been shattered? Like how long have the Lands Between been like this?

Cause it feels like shit has been degrading for a long time just judging from the state of the world but you'll have regular people still wandering around being all like "oh hey I'm just travelling" or "Hey I got a castle near here that I lost if you wanna help me get it back".

There are certain bosses that fuck you hard if you lock on to them. My best advice is to not lock on and use sweeping attacks at the bosses, then learn their tells. The Ulcerated Tree Spirits have limited recourse if you attack them from the side, as they can only attack in front and behind.

I ended up doing almost all of Altus Plateau after I finished with Liurnia Lake. I should go back to Siofra River and complete it, but I'm currently running around Caelid after doing up Mt. Gelmir.

Just realized I missed an entire section of Siofra (the north one) so back down I go tonight. >_>

Dark Souls kind of explained this by saying that the flow of time was different in Lordran/Drangleic/Lothric/whatever, and that not everyone is existing in the same time and space at the same time. It was the lore explanation for why your world could be invaded, and you could invade other worlds. Not sure if it's the same in Elden Ring.

Most of the NPCs in Elden Ring are tarnished, like you, meaning that prior to current events, they weren't in the Lands Between, and have only recently been called back by the Greater Will.

Other NPCs, like Edgar, who don't seem to be tarnished, but surviving residents of the Lands aren't so cut and dry. In Edgar's case anyways, he is actively defending his castle, as evidenced by the Godrick soldiers fighting the Misbegotten in various areas of Castle Morne.

Sword from the Elden Beast remembrance is the most busted shit in the game for farming groups of stuff.

I'm going to be honest I really don't have a whole hell of a lot of an idea what is going on in the story. I really never have in any of the games in the series. Someday I'll find a 30 minute to an hour video explaining the lore and story of this game and watch that.

Honestly, I don't even care. I like the gameplay so much and some of the areas are beautiful.

This game is like an advanced Legend of Zelda, and it makes me miss having proper towns and shit. I miss Morrowind.

Apparently you're brought back from the Greater Will/Two Fingers to fix the shit that Marika broke but no one really wants to fix the order, they either want to end the order or rule in another way including you, the MC. If the Greater Will already knows you want to betray them then couldn't they just end you any time they wanted?

It's not exactly that.

Marika breaks the Elden Ring so she's punished, there's war and strife between the kiddos (kiddos offspring in Godrick's case). The Elden Lord (previously Marika) is basically a puppet ruler for the Greater Will so all the Tarnished are beckoned back by its will so they can fight for the seat and it can have a new puppet. It's up to you whether you want to go along with that completely or not.

Stop trying to make From Software stuff makes sense

The Greater Will wants the Lands Between to be ruled in a certain way which is why if it isn't then there will be means to stop the people who are trying to rule it the wrong way. For instance, Ranni is a candidate to rule but because she wants destroy and go against the Greater Will's rule(and eventually decides to rule it in her own way), there were things sent to stop her such as Blaidd having to kill her

Marika wasn't punished for destroying the Elden Ring. I believe her punishment started when she disturbed the order by making everything immortal by stealing away the Rune of Death.

Removing Death from the cycle was one of the earlier things that happened. The wars with Godfrey came after that, Ranni stealing the rune from Maliketh, Godwyn and her dying in their ways, the war, etc. From what I read it seems likely to me that Marika has been done with the Greater Will's shit for a while.

And yeah you're right, the Will does want things to run its certain way. It basically wants a Tarnished to deal with the demigod crap, put the Ring back together, and plop their ass down in the throne to become the new face of the Golden Order. There's only so much it can do to ensure that happens so you can go along with that or do something else, like go with the Frenzy god or Ranni, who wants free will for all (though I suspect she's manipulated by another outer god as well lol).

With all that said, it's a From game so of course I'm still putting pieces together myself and can have things wrong. For some reason it's part of what makes these games so fun to talk about for me.
