Notice how the weight of the poll ebbs from "I'm good, can't complain" to "Not so good, but not that bad?" I don't know when the shift actually started, but it was definitely underway by 2013, balanced by 2015, and then officially shifted by 2019.

So what were we all so happy about in 2005? Let's try and figure it out.

Picture this. The year is 2005. All is joy. You're dancing and prancing through the fields. You're naked. Everyone else is naked too, dancing and prancing. Some people are kissing. You notice. Oh, this is kind of exciting. You stop dancing.

We got older.

I actually remember what I was doing that day. I was at Kmart, in the electronics/video games section, playing Star Fox Assault. And I saw Krystal. She was all staring at the player and caressing her body. Oh, that was kind of exciting.

At the time, yes. Out on the old couch in the garage, about half a dozen stoners could have walked in at any moment, no protection.

Looking back at it now, it's just kinda meh; lead to the loss of my only child and the near death of my then partner.

It's more funny that the site lost 4/5 of its votership. It's just old weirdos now instead of dumb kids.

Nah, they're pretty depressed too, they finally got a digital upgrade to their physical bell but the power keeps going out so now it's off by seven minutes, and they just can't be bothered to do anything about it.

cool to be depressed? never heard of that, but i guess idiots will make anything "cool".

I wanted to say Kat Pager happened, but I think that was 2006 (I could be wrong)? Lots of people on PotD and B8 were super happy when that played out, whenever that was.

Otherwise, yeah, the years went on, a lot of us developed various forms of physical strain that comes with the passage of time, things got more expensive, the political landscape got dumber and dumber and further out of our reach where we could do jack squat about it, and wages hardly went up at all to account for any combination of inflation or corporate avarice. That can leave a lot of people jaded and bitter.

I've just become more jaded and cynical over the years. I have however become more open minded and less caring about trivial things that don't effect my life or the very few people I care about.

medical costs are about as expensive as USA even after "government subsidies". and after retirement the insurance corps pretty much block you from all medical insurance, so we can only rely on government stuff which only deduct like a maximum of a few thousand bucks a month, when it cost more than 3 million dollars (estimate from over a decade ago) to survive cancer.

as for rent, well this is one of the most expensive cities in the SEA, with houses that can cost up to 5 million bucks... for a limited lease period. there's cheaper "commie block" options, but i don't qualify for any of them because i'm not married or anything like that.

Things got worse with time, and they will only get worse from here. Things will always get worse, never better. If they get better, then it's too good to be true, and will suddenly get much worse than they've ever been.

i am not old and disabled enough to get there yet, but i am not a millionaire enough to protect myself against such a future. duh? also i was born here? it's not like i had a choice in where i was born.

I became a country western song.

I lost my wife, I lost my cat (named wolfy though, so you could call it a dog), I lost my house and eventually I lost my health.

Then we had the pandemic and everyone got more depressed.

It's been a really sucky 2 decades.

The moderation practices got worse and worse over that same time period.

And this is worse than... when? 2005-ish when making a joke related to a Harry Potter spoiler, without saying the spoiler itself, was moddable? The golden age of PotD when almost everyone got moderated for petty reasons almost every day, largely thanks to a certain Scottish woman? All the times ICO or other users got off scot-free for clear-as-day violations, over the decades?
