But on the other side, you also gain an hour of sleep...

Except...when they say "permanent" they mean that there won't be any change in the spring and fall. We will just stick with the DST definition of time 365 days per year.

....so you're in favor of this, right?

Theres really no good reason to keep doing DST so hopefully this gets signed into law

Apparently the change is being implemented November 2023? That's what I heard at least.

This is how it should normally be. Theres pretty much no (genuinely) good argument for why daylight savings time (the one that just began this past Sunday) shouldnt be the norm.

Yeah this year would still be like normal. We'd fall back to normal time this year. Then we'd Spring ahead again next year, but come time to drop back in Nov 23 we wouldn't and we'd just stay that way FOREVER!

I wonder how many people know where DST even came from. I'd say most will know the "because of the farmers" type of answer. Which is what they say now. But that isn't where it came from or why it was started.

It started when Benjamin Franklin went to France and saw it done there. It was done there because it would help conserve candles. The more daylight there is into the evening hours the less they'd use at homes and on the streets where they would light up the roads and walkways with street lights lite by candle light. He liked it so he brought it to America. Well last I checked we haven't been using candle like for awhile now. So there is absolutely no reason to keep DST around(even though this bill sets us permanently INTO DST) But we area already in from the middle of March until Nov so we use it most the year anyways. So why not just go with it right? IMO this would be an overall better change, because now there isn't the flippy flopping around twice a year. There are different states and areas in parts of different states that already do or don't observe parts of it. It will just be nice to have a uniform standard for everyone.

There's a lot of good arguments, honestly. They've literally done studies comparing places that use it versus places that don't. Most of them involve overall power usage and physical health. There ARE tangible benefits to DST, even if you don't notice them personally.

The real problem is that there are also studies that suggest there are good arguments against DST, so neither is clearly or inherently superior in every way. So the outcome is being forced to choose which one has more advantages or fewer disadvantages compared to the other. But both have positives and negatives.

I wasn't going to argue this. My thread was like the 4th or 5th thread down when he made this thread, and I found it rather ironic he felt it necessary to create a second.

Yeah true but they should just leave it alone. They could find more important things to do I am sure.

If anything, they should keep normal time, not daylight savings.

We tried permanent daylight savings in the 70's. It didn't go over very well.

Maybe. But I also dont really see an issue with it. I personally like the change
