In the latter, for example, the hippies all die in a common event, but not all by the same means, or even by the same person. Would the Death Star blowing up Alderaan - which is instantaneous but essentially anonymous - or the Moon crashing into Termina - which is more or less instant (at least for Clock Town), but also depicts the individual characters in their lead-up to the collective doom - count?

There's not a specific time limit. Instantaneous mass death would count. The hippies I'd kinda lean against, because there's definitely a difference between several of them (like the girl being set on fire is definitely a different death then the guy being mauled by the dog)

Totally cruel and undeserved, a quite mean-spirited moment in a film mostly centering around nostalgia and family. It's so prolong and agonizing and the worst part is no one in the film even cares! It's a death I appreciate for its bleakness and controversy and I think it deserves a spot on any deaths' list.
