Im watching through DBZ again, mostly in the background. Ive only ever seen this show as a kid.

Every month or so, when Im hanging out with my buddies, we watch through it and pick up where we left off, so I experience it in big chunks. We are about 120 or so episodes in, somewhere during the Trunks saga.

This show kinda sucks.

Frieza saga took almost 20 hours alone. There is sooooo much filler, its absurd. DBZ Kai might actually be watchable, Im unsure.

Its almost funny at times, and the nostalgia carries it really well, but man! It is just so slow.

Yeah, watching Kai instead would have been a good idea but that ship has sailed. Kai seriously cut down on filler and even changed some dialogue to make it more accurate to the manga. Whenever I go back to the DBZ well I just watched abridged now, obviously it's not the same but in a lot of ways it's just much better.

I think Abridged is the definitive DBZ experience.

Kai almost halves Z so there's that... so let's see 120 is Future Trunks Appears in Z..... in Kai it's M.Vegeta vs M.Buu

but you gotta switch over for Goku & Piccolo's driver's test anyhow

(and I need my Gohan vs Tao Pai Pai)

DBZ is basically an anime soap opera for kids. It was never meant to be watched in a binge format - instead, it was designed to be something that could be watched every day for years, occupying children's minds as a stable part of their lives. I think that's something that's lost on people who try to go back and watch it like it's a normal anime.

I still get some joy, but yeah.

Watch HxH for the real shit.

the frieza saga is the worst of it by far, from the filler perspective. the android/cell saga's filler is way more entertaining. lots of yelling and dead space moments though.

DBZ is great, period.

yeah it's very much a thing you come home from school to watch although i do remember as a kid however going THE SPIRIT BOMB STILL ISN'T COMPLETE?! lmao

Fuck the original adaptation.

Watch Kai or read the manga, the true dragon Ball experience.

Been watching Dragon Ball for the very first time over the last couple years, on the Buu saga now

Definitely a very bloated show but I've enjoyed it

I mean the characters and story are strong enough to make it good for first time viewers but I would never rewatch it

DBZ Abridged is really the best adaption, although it has no right being so good.

DBZ doesn't have great filler until Buu saga and of course the exception with Goku and Piccolo driving.

How far did DBZ abridged go?

I definitely still enjoy DBZ overall. I loved it as a kid, spent a huge part of my life playing the trading card game. My username has Majin in it. But binge watching this show has really not been fun.

You know, I'm glad they never did Buu. They don't need to do Buu. Hell, what they're doing now is better than Buu. Home For Infinite Losers is greaaaat

Also, been binging MistareFusion's 'DragonBall Dissection' series and it's been an excellent look at and analysis of the manga, as well as various movies as they happened and much quicker anime saga breakdowns. It's like getting a really good cliffnotes of the series and enjoying them in a different way without having to sit through hours and hours of episodes again

End of Cell Saga. They also did movies up through Broly (and all their takes are better than the actual movies themselves, espically Lord Slug and The World's Strongest) and think they got burnt out trying to make Bojack work and that's when everything ended. They've also done a bunch of Top 12/24 lists, some of their own stuff (again, Home For Infinite Losers with Cell in the afterlife), and TFS gaming was really good for a while but haven't checked out in a long time (Dumpling in Xenoverse! Tien vs. Super Buu!)

I was a DB superfan as a kid, bought each of the video games and had basically an encyclopedic knowledge of the whole franchise

but man, trying to watch DBS has been a real slog

DBZA stopped because Toei Animation is stricter than Nintendo when it comes to anyone making content about their material, and the Japanese legal system lets them get away with it.

I'm planning on watching Kai soon.

Show is great, even if it's slow at times.

Kai is a lot better, though they added the Buu Saga on later and it's still bad.

Of course Abridged is really where it's at.

They repeatedly fought copyright violations and almost had their channel nuked several times. It was touch and go for years.
