I keep getting calls from their recruiters. I scheduled an interview on Friday, since I work from home that day.

I'm just not used to this cloak and dagger stuff, as I don't want to tell my current job I'm taking an interview, even if it's just one and I'm not actively looking for another job otherwise.

That also being said, fuck my current job. I've been working 50-60 hour weeks, and can never seem to get ahead workload wise. I have 4 different people just drop whatever task they want on me, and all are marked urgent (without talking to each other).

Hopefully it works out, this new job could be up to a 25k raise with better benefits based on what the recruiter is telling me.

Unless the new job will treat you even worse, that sounds like a no-brainer.

You don't owe your job anything other than a 2 week notice, so I say go for it. Good luck!

Heck, you don't even owe them that, in many cases. That's often more a matter of common courtesy than an actual requirement. If you don't need the reference, can afford to burn the bridge, and there's nothing explicit in your employment contract, you can just walk out.

They're trying to pouch you? Damn. You know they're serious when they start sending female kangaroos to try and kidnap you.

Good point. Personally, I never really try to burn bridges anywhere I work. You never know when a good reference would come in handy.

Same, but in places that are bad enough that you doubt you'll get a good reference anyway and if you've got a job lined up that doesn't care about your current employer's opinion, I don't see much point in bending over backwards to keep them happy.

The emlpoyer certainly wouldn't give you two weeks notice if they decided to let you go. They don't deserve two weeks notice when you decide to go.

Not super duper concerned about burning bridges btw, honestly if the company I'm at now is still in business in 2025, I will be shocked. The way they are doing things is just unsustainable imo, and they are small (local start up) so it's not like I'm burning bridges at Google or Disney.

I told this current employer I was thinking of leaving already anyway, I don't get bank Holidays off, and have even had to come in on my Birthday. They got on me about showing up @9:30 instead of 9, despite I almost always stay until 7.

Yeah, this is a bridge I can afford to burn, and it's such a toxic environment they may just terminate me on the spot when I tell them I got another offer.

*Edit* also meant to say poach in title >.>

Little update on this btw. I did the interview, and two hours later they called me back to schedule a final interview with a director level person.

My last employer gave me 5 months notice, LOL.

But to be fair, they where required to give 12 weeks notice by law, and wanted to get as much info out of me before I was out the door. And before you ask, the incentive for staying that long was I would get payed an additional 6 months of severance after I was gone, in addition to have benefits for another year after that.
