Assuming you play tetris of course, do you experience the tetris effect?

Hours after playing tetris, about 2/3 people will report seeing images of blocks falling, often sliding into gaps among other blocks, and even completed lines disappearing. This is reported even among amnesiac patients who are incapable of creating new memories.

I played a lot of tetris on the train saturday, and naturally I've been feeling it ever since.

How about you potd? Do you ever feel the tetris effect?

Bonus question: are you any good at tetris?

I've never really found that I'm overly susceptible to the tetris effect, but I would occasionally see ascending arrows whenever I closed my eyes when I was playing a lot of DDR.

I don't think it's ever happened with Tetris specifically, but I used to involuntarily imagine different block/combo setups whenever I played Tetris Attack a lot.

It's pretty fascinating stuff. Something about procedural memory being accessible even when other memories arent. Not unique to tetris, but it is one of the more notable examples. Similar things happen with amnesiacs who knew how to play the piano. They still can play, but often times the shock of stopping at the end of a session can cause them to have some sort of panic attack (this has been reported a couple of times with tetris as well)

Memory is weird. I do everything I can to maintain mine, because the thought of losing it in my old age terrifies me.

I know a lot of people said the same about games like rock band. I dont much fuck with rhythm games myself, but I can see how that would happen.

My only experiences with something of that nature is when I would go to an amusement park, or lounge on a floatee ALL DAY, and then try to go to sleep at night. Close your eyes in bed, and it still feels like your body is being thrown around by a ride, or rocking to the waves of the water.

It happened a lot when I was learning mahjong. While falling asleep, I kept seeing tile patterns and what tiles they accept. It felt like an useful part of the learning process, helping me turn tile efficiency into automatic processing.

It almost certainly was a useful learning tool. People who experience the tetris effect usually see a marked improvement in their skills compared to those who dont.

I haven't played Tetris is pretty much forever, but I played a lot when I did, and I did experience it.

Though the one that really got me is when I was playing the original .hack games, and the epileptic seizure inducing Data Drain animations that you see over and over and over and over again as part of gameplay basically burned into my brain. I remember after long sessions I was literally seeing them with my eyes closed in the shower and in my dreams.

I feel like I have some vague recollection of that .hack game....

Tetris is one of those games I get back into every few years. I still have the old Game Boy cartridge.

I have definitely experienced the Tetris effect. Sometimes it makes me want to rearrange the furniture.

I've experienced similar effects with DDR
