The Superior Court of Justice has granted a request from the Ontario government to freeze access to millions of dollars donated through online fundraising platform GiveSendGo to the truckers convoy protesting COVID-19 restrictions in Ottawa and at several border crossings.
A statement from Premier Doug Ford's office on Thursday said Attorney General Doug Downey brought the application for the order, under 490.8 of the Criminal Code, to prohibit anyone from distributing donations made through the website's "Freedom Convoy 2022" and "Adopt-a-Trucker" campaign pages.
Ivana Yelich, spokesperson for the premier, said the order "binds any and all parties with possession or control over these donations."

Convoy protest could change the way money is monitored, says watchdog agency
Convoy organizers quickly set up a campaign on Christian fundraising site GiveSendGo, after donors initially raised more than $10 million through GoFundMe.
Late last week, GoFundMe said it would stop payments to convoy organizers and refund donors directly because the protest violates its rules on violence and harassment.
The company announced its decision in a blog post on Friday evening, just two days after it froze disbursements of the fund.

Hundreds of the GoFundMe donations to the Ottawa convoy protest came from donors who said they were located outside of Canada, according to an analysis of data collected by CBC News.
The analysis of a sample of more than 6,600 comments made on the GoFundMe crowdfunding page before it was shut down shows that 573 donations amounting to more than $33,378 came from people who said they were located abroad.
The GiveSendGo campaign has raised $8.2 million US so far.
Also on Thursday, representatives of the Ontario government declined a third invitation to participate in trilateral talks to deal with ongoing anti-vaccine mandate protests, sources told CBC News.
A meeting of representatives of all three levels of government was scheduled for this afternoon.

Know this! Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo. All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is The Freedom Convoy campaign.

They are of course, 100% wrong, and probably should be made aware that there is an extradition treaty between the US and Canada and that wire fraud carries a sentence of 2-14 years in federal prison for each count. (not even going to touch the charges they could face from US Main Justice)

I am hopeful that we are nearing the end of the "Fuck Around" phase, and I think we will be reaching the "Find Out" phase very soon.

Probably like the aftermath of 1/6 w/ a bunch of wussy terrorists crying their eyes out about being unable to fly back home, except this time it'll be wussy terrorists crying their eyes out about losing their trucks and jobs. And hopefully this time actually going to prison for more than 2 weeks.

In any case, should be some good watchin' and lots of delicious salty tears.

I mean, they all could face prison time and will probably freak out about that.
As far as losing jobs / being sued in civil court / etc... it kinda varies depending on each individual/group. Kinda hard to paint a comprehensive picture since I haven't followed this stupid fucking convoy news that much and don't know how deep the rot goes.

I heard Peter Thiel funded it? I predict, as a rich person, he will face absolutely zero consequences for it....

I can never decide if it's sad or funny to watch certain users try to express support for this debacle without actually expressing support for this debacle.

And they also have the power to strip people of both their commercial and personal drivers license.

GiveSendGo has been hacked, the site is down, and the clownvoy donors doxxed

The clownvoy has set up their own crowdfunding site for "Family Expense Support and have set rules to (try to) skirt banking regulations; they seem really eager to earn those wire fraud charges. (hint: it's a bad idea to donate to this cause if you wish to remain out of federal prison, especially if you don't live in Canada)

I don't think they realize there is no difference between providing material support to terrorists, and providing material support to the terrorists family (especially since they brought their children with them)

The Prime Minister's emergency declaration also gives the federal government superseding authourity to seize the clownvoy's funds.

CSIS has been aware of what these clowns were planning since December, and Ottawa Police were informed in January
