Yeah.... it's Jimmy Carr. And the fact that you recognize it's a joke kinda shows that he didn't mean it literally. He just wants to surprise with the unexpected punchline. Pretty common setup in comedy.

It wasn't a racist joke. It was a joke about race. The humor isn't from racism, but unpredictability.

I'd like TC to define a pro-genocide joke. Because when I saw the clip, what I'm seeing is a joke about genocide, but what the topic title suggested to me was that it would be a joke with the idea of furthering pro genocide agendas via humour.

Even for Jimmy this is a pretty offensive joke. But then it's Jimmy Carr. The whole show was purposely about "carer ending jokes" and came with a warning before hand you'd be subject to jokes about terrible things.

That said, mocking the Roma/Travellers etc in Europe is pretty much accepted and you are seen as weird for not demonising them. I don't think Jimmy was doing this, as seen in the clip posted above, he goes on to say that these are things the vast majority of people don't know, as it isn't taught. Now, you could say there are better ways to teach it, but he's a comedian so it's how he's going to do it.

Not funny. Lame.

It's just missing the context of him explaining afterwards how many, Roma, Gypsies etc are forgotten in the holocaust.

A few bad eggs ruin it for all of them. Pretty much everyone I've met has been decent enough sort (not that a brief encounter really says anything) but you'll always hear stories of them being blamed for shit, or their kids misbehaving, when shitty children or individuals are all over everywhere and nothing unique to them.

It's weird. It definitely is used as a slur by some and the (one) Roma I know despises the term, but then many do apparently use it. So I dunno if it's them trying to reclaim it like queer etc or not tbh.

I still don't really fault anyone for not liking the joke regardless of that though, as it is offensive and intended to be so after all.

This might offend some people, but I once read/heard/said that explaining a joke is like dissecting a cat, sure now you know the intricacies and how it works, but you killed it in the process, let me explain, you should never have to explain the joke for it to be funny and dissecting a cat isnt funny I hope you learned something from this post

Jimmy Carr's whole gimmick is ending sentences in shocking or unexpected ways. For example, one of his jokes goes "People like to smoke a cigarette after sex, but you can't buy cigarettes until you're sixteen, so I have to buy them for both of us." The humor is not in Jimmy being a pedophile or endorsing pedophilia, but in the sudden turn.
