I was offered a job as a Junior Technical Writer in Fairfax, VA (suburb of DC), but I declined because they only offered me $60K and the cost of living is just too high there.

Still a high school teacher now. I do alright, given how low the cost of living is here in NC.

But like many, I have had shitty jobs with shitty bosses that doesn't pay you enough to go through their bullshit so I can understand if people don't want to deal with that stuff if the company doesn't do much to improve workers' lives.

Been at the same job 7 years at this point. Got 2 promotions this year and have a decent salary and bonus package, so Im good for now unless a recruiter reaches out to me with an offer I cant refuse, or the place Im at eventually lays me off and I get a nice severance package.

Yes. I quit after I took a whole 6 months of maternity leave. While I was out, everyone on my team quit. They were worried I wouldnt come back so they promoted me and gave me a $25k raise. I took it then and at the end of my leave I took another job for an additional $50k pay bump. Fuck my old job.

My husband also quit and got a $40k pay bump.

I did a bit of job hopping last year.

Got some WFH call center tech support job last July, ended up leaving that towards the end of September because fuck being on a phone for 10 hours a day with all your time being micromanaged. The job I went to was a Service Dispatcher job for a company supporting HP server hardware and software. I left that after 4 months because the company was organized like a dumpster fire and eventually the entire team left.

Now I'm back to working from home as a Service Desk Admin, doing 4 hours of actual work per day and making more money than I had at any of my previous jobs. Getting valuable IT experience as I study for certs and the company is pretty damn laid back. Shit's been going very good for me lately.

How much experience did you have before getting your current job? I'm also doing call center tech support and wondering if I should quit before finding a new job or not.

I just had my A+ and about 5 years of customer service experience between various retail jobs (my current job was only looking for 6 months of customer service experience).

I should note that I didn't leave any of those jobs until I had another offer in hand. My only real gap was when Best Buy laid a bunch of us off last February and I was out of work until July.

Unfortunately I'm in an industry that was booming a few decades ago but now is extremely competitive and it's honestly a better look to carve out a 4-5 year stint at a place instead of jumping and running for money as part of a wider trend. I am glad that this is happening overall though, but from a myopic perspective, it's somewhat meh to me currently. I think things will escalate quite a bit in a couple years when more baby boomers get out of the game, or at least become extremely reduced in scope. Has only started to happen right now.

I dunno, I was definitely impacted by it.

My department was seeing a lot of turnover due to higher paying competition. Made a couple not so subtle hints to my boss every time this happened and ended up getting a 20% raise which pushed me to a middle income wage for my area, barely. Still counts.

Started 2021 at a shitty call center tech support job. Job hopped to a tech writer role, slight pay bump. Well worth it; never going back to the phones ever again.

Then got promoted 6 months later into a much more technical role. Unfortunately, while that came with a raise, my company is MAJORLY undercutting what the role is actually worth. So, I'm in the market, again.

Sucks, because I quite like my manager and the people I work with. But I have a life to lead, and can't afford to be held back by penny-pinching HR bullshit
