Even if you like the look, it runs like shit, cant even hit 30fps

It looks static and dreary. The skybox is pulling hard to keep it looking slightly decent. The rock cliffs look terrible. The snaking of the river is the only interesting aspect of the environment. It looks like a charmless Wind Waker.

That video is definitely not doing any favors for the argument that this game looks good. Whether you like it or not is a matter of subjective opinion, but once they get airborne it becomes incredibly apparent how low res the ground texture is. You can see the pattern repeat very quickly

This would help if they put in a lot of taller, wavy grass like BotW, but if the games performance is already an issue I would guess that's out of the question

The sky box is also incredibly flat and boring, and the landscape is just...bland

Also, it's jarring how there's no transparency to the water, nor is there any signs of life whatsoever in it...no schools of magikarp, or some goldeen, maybe some cloysters? It's just barren

BotW kind of set a huge standard for beautiful game worlds on Switch and this just ain't it. It's a lot of very apparent cut corners

I play video games to game, not to be a technical analyst. The gameplay loop and amount of content is most important to me, which I hear is a lot better in this game than its recent predecessors but still could be better.

No problem, no one is saying you cant have fun with any game. The point of the topic is that publications bow to big publishers lazy, compromised games.

I don't think it's worth getting angry over an ugly game getting an 86 average review score if the core game is still fun.

I always find these 'If it was called Legend of Belda people would hate it' arguments dumb though.

Reviewers have historically not really cared about performance.

Are you seriously comparing this game to cyberpunk? This game is not lying or pretending to be what its not. If anything the pre-release info has massively undersold what the game actually plays like. Meanwhile Cyberpunk was massively overhyped by the devs, media, and CDPRs massive group of fanboys alike, and released in a horribly unfinished state.

I mean at the end of the day, this is still one of the higher budget Pokemon games with late but still more ambitious than usual gameplay. That's what they're gonna score on, not purely on the graphics or the fact that they stripped a bunch of other shit to make it possible, like abilities, most of the Pokemon, held items, etc. If you thought it was gonna get like a low score, then you're just being silly.

If anything, despite this fact that it got a middling 80's probably means it's not really gonna shake the foundation of Pokemon. This is probably not the BOTW Pokemon dream game that some people are expecting it to be. It's just your average day bland Pokemon game that never goes all the way because they'll still sell millions of copies.

Pokemon has always been a series that puts in minimum effort and gets high praise.

For years the game followed the same formula. I'd hit a point and think "this is where I get this hm, or the bike, or the main antagonist is gonna do this"

But like the Sims it's core fan base are people that don't care about that and only care about pokemon. They don't really compare it to other games they just compare it to pokemon.

So this is all to be expected. Game journalist also don't want to get their reviews revoked by publishers so they'll all love it.

Everyone ITT can calm down, game is great. Really fun. You don't have to cry about other people enjoying the game either. It's a fun experience!

So they feel justified in their dislike of it. Even if it's a good game, it'll never be 'that' good because they dislike it already.

It's like me when I hated FF after playing a shitty demo at Gamestop once. No matter what cool stuff I saw come from it, I hated it. Regardless of how good it looked.

Theres a difference between wanting things to be bad and recognizing things that are bad and the biases that allow it.

Maybe the parts that you're focusing on, are the ones that aren't very important to the overall experience, but since they're not to your perceived standard of being good, you view that as the holy grail to stand behind and say 'see, see this? Awful, the game is awful.'

Im sorry you feel attacked because youre enjoying a technically compromised game. Perhaps though if you, and everyone else?wasnt so accepting of the bare minimum for 25 years you would actually have a masterpiece by now. Something to think about.

Yeah I dont really get it either. It's not exactly a hot take or a ground breaking revelation to say that Pokemon plays things very safe, has found a low effort formula to pump out yearly games, and sells a shitload.

That said, it's not like these games ever get aggregate scores that paint them as masterpieces. Pokemon is certainly never going to crack the top 10, or even top 100 list on metacritic. So it's not like their review scores mean much in the grand scheme of things anyway

Hell, I just took a look at metacritic. There's not a single pokemon game above 90. Pokemon Y is the highest at an 88. The good majority of them are sitting around the mid 80s or lower

to be fair to pokemon i think Silver/Gold were classic games and a masterpiece for its time.

They don't. Even if you don't like them, Pokmon games are fairly competently made and fun RPGs. Even if most of em do the same thing, they do it well. I played Sword n Shield and it wasn't amazing but it was good.

That's what Pokemon is at minimum, just good. If you think something like Sword n Shield is bad, I have a myriad of RPGs to show you what that really means

This is a meme game that's basically Pokemon with guns done by a small indie studio. There's no reason why this game should look better than an official Pokemon product:
