when I was growing up there was something "wrong" with you if you didn't like the Dallas Cowboys

as someone said, they're supposed to be the showcase team for the whole NFL, or something...

I've Always seen it as they're the biggest team. Like basically everyone knows a cowboys fan. So because of that it kinda became you either live them or hate them. As really popular things normally end up polarizing.

^^ this. Jerry Jones is ungodly rich so when he builds the NFL's most expensive stadium and has one of the most marketable NFL franchcises, every loss is a moment for fans of other teams to dogpile. This season has been a rough one for any Cowboys fan but with what Dak pulled off this last game, I know many fans that were livid.

I think people also love to see New England or Tampa lose these days. And almost the entire country was rooting for Pittsburgh to not make the playoffs through a Vegas/LA tie.

Cowboys fan here. I really dont know why were hated so much at this point. Its not like the team has been successful and I dont see how our fans are any worse than anyone else. Steelers fans are insufferable, but nobody cares about them outside of their division. People hate the Patriots almost as much as the Cowboys, but the Patriots have at least been relevant for the last couple of decades-ish.

My beloved Toronto Maple Leafs have the same reputation up here in Canada, except we have no championships to show for it since 1967. They're the richest team and get the most media coverage. They are Canada's biggest team along with the Montreal Canadiens (yeah right, they can go get f***ed). And each time they make the playoffs, they find new and humiliating ways to choke in the 1st round.

Cowboy fans are the worst to have been so mediocre for the past 30 years its just funny. Their like team rocket with the over the top intro just to get defeated with ease every time

All of these. Fuck the Cowboys and their entitled fans. Hell, even their star QB told the media that he was glad that the fans threw bottles and trash at the refs at the end of a Playoff game which wasn't even their fault to begin with. Trashy

They are hated so much because of the microscope that they are under. The expectations are so high here in Dallas and Jerry Jones is an egomaniac. As for this last loss, I blame Dak and that fuckwad, Mike McCarthy doing what he doesn't do best. Time management. The 49ers were handing you the game and you blew it.

I don't even recall it being the NFL, I always got the impression that the Cowboys' Ego Trust came up with that shit. Personally, I don't like the Cowboys because their fans have generally been insufferable for decades.

I feel like this topic underestimates the shit other teams get when they lose. Speaking as a fan of a team that historically lost a lot, we get shit on pretty hard after losing.

I know several Eagles fans and theyre interesting, to say the least, about their team. But insufferable is not the word Id use to describe them, either.

Because they're "America's Team", media darlings, and since the '90s, they get way more attention and hype than they ever deserve. We hear how they're going to turn it around every year, and they haven't done it yet.

Eh, people laugh at the Packers when they lose too, 15-1 and done was a big thing for a while. Same with the Patriots when Brady was there, they got clowned to death when they lost to the Giants to spoil their undefeated season and when the Eagles beat them. So I don't really know if the *crickets* thing for other teams is accurate lol.

But as to your question about why the Cowboys, they're the most valuable franchise and some of the mystique around them just reeks of pretentiousness like "we have a retractable roof so God can watch our games", America's team, and the same people who bandwagon the Cowboys also are usually Yankees and Laker fans so it's funny to laugh at the front runners when they fall on their face.

Just a reminder: the old Vet in Philly had it's own jail.

They're the most popular team (akin to the Yankees in baseball and Lakers in basketball) with an owner who has one of the biggest egos in all of sports among owners. Said popularity in turn means there will be alot more unbearable fans as well just due to the sheer size of the fanbase.

People tend to lump an entire fanbase on the worst section of said fanbase.

And for the most part, the worst section of the Dallas fanbase is BY FAR the most obnoxious.

They're even obnoxious about how much they are hated. The whole "The world can't keep the 'D' out of their mouth".

And what compounds it is that fact that, unlike a team like Pittsburgh or New England, they haven't won anything in close to 30 years, but puff their chests out like they win it all every year.
