It's weird how people act like I constantly defend republicans when I can't remember the last time I defended a republican politician over such things.

Most of the time people aren't responding to me but responding to some strawman of me that has very little to do with actual me.

Have the people dunking on me acknowledged that I'm completely against this book ban? Or is it an issue where because it goes against their narrative and expectations they just don't even notice?

As we can see from this book banning policy, they are sloppy and imprecise and don't seem to know or care about the differences between the actual divisive policies being taught and just some random thing they target.

I've made it clear what kind of thing I am against, I've made it clear these kinds of books obviously aren't that.

The one policy (random book banning) being discussed in this topic I am explicitly against. So I don't see how you can suggest that I agree with them.

To me CRT is basically:
-Black people exist
-Black people have gotten the short end of the stick for centuries
-Black people have made positive contributions to society and deserve to be recognized for that, and not just focus on all the "omg crime rates, drug addicts, 'black brute'" stereoptypes

No, the argument is bad thing is bad. In this case the bad things origins trace it roots to the left. However the censorship actions of republican politicians is also bad, and the fault of those republicans.

The uproar over CRT is driven primarily not by a genuine concern about racial division, but by conservative opportunists looking to do exactly the sorts of stuff this topic is about and silence entirely legitimagte and factual discussions of race and its role in American history. To hop on board with that manufactured outrage is to make yourself a useful tool of that crowd, who rely on obfuscation and conflation of the real issues at play in order to drum up public support.

If you enter a discussion about CRT saying that something needs to be done about it, those who are currently trying to do something about it will count you on their side. What they are trying to do isn't a thoughtful excision of only the bad, harmful CRT you think is out there, but broad-sweeping, censorious actions like we've seen ITT. Your "nuanced" take doesn't exist in a vaccuum.

I think that's backwards; the racists and cranks muddied the waters in order to get more mainstream members of the right on board. The idea wasn't to weed out CRT, because as has been discussed constantly, CRT wasn't in elementary schools to begin with. You lump in anodyne history with CRT because you're trying to get rid of the former, not the latter.
