Fortunately for me, I don't want to be generous.

I'm more irritated when people go on social media to talk about how they "paid it forward." Like, did you do a kind thing to be kind or did you do it for social media clout?

lmao, I'm not paying for a stranger's Starbucks. It's $5+ for a coffee and like $2.50 for a banana. Who came up with this?

I just avoid the whole sitch and make my coffee at home...

Why do you have to tip at starbucks? It's just a fancier tim hortons.

You tip Starbucks because they are always busy. The workers deserve more pay because of all the orders they handle on a daily basis.

The only times I've ever paid for a stranger's food is if I happen to be right behind them and their like, card stopped working or something. Might've happened like three times in my life.

Paying it forward is another way of saying one good turn, deserves another. Random acts of kindness, that sort of thing.

And no, I wouldn't be mad at the people who tip. I'd be mad at the greedy business practices that lead to tipping becoming an obligation rather than an act of goodwill.

I've had this happen twice in a McDonald's drive thru. Once there was nobody behind me so, free stuff, yay!

The second time I asked how much the guy behind me ordered. It was close enough to mine that I was cool with it. It's a weird thing though.

Once tried to pay it forward and the guy behind me got irritated. He said "no, got pay for someone who needs it."

I'm explaining what paying it forward means. You wanted to know, and a true version of it has nothing to do with guilt tripping someone into it.

It's just doing something for another out of the kindness of your heart.

Whether that's buying a homeless person a meal, or sending a friend a surprise care package when they're going through a sad time, or jump starting a stranger's car.

So much prefer the Japanese view on this - tipping is literally an insult to the worker, saying that they won't do their job properly unless bribed.

So much this, and it is actually true where tipping is an obligation like the US. No tip? No only you will get a bad service if you ever come back but also spit or someone's balls on your food.

Here's the deal man. I pay for my own drink and I don't tip fast food places like starbucks. If I have to go up to the counter for my shit or go through a drivethrough I ain't tippin.

Tip jar obsession is the mark of a lazy person who wishes to be an activist.
