I mean I like Bloons but that one gets old since if you how to play it you can beat almost all maps with the same three or four monkeys.

Well, the bottom bitch tier is things like Anomaly and Defense Grid Awakening 1 and 2, then you get into classics like GemCraft and DesktopTD (which weirdly got a Nintendo DS version), and then you get into crazy town with Creeper World and Orcs Must Die 3 (and debatably Dungeon Defenders even though I hate it)

Harvest: Massive Encounter is more infrastructure defense than tower defense cuz you goota make sure you have power and resources for your towers

I think there was a final fantasy spin off that was tower defense. Crystal defenders or something

Kingdom Rush have all been fun.

Assassin's Creed Revalations

Plants vs Zombies is the god-tier Tower Defense game.
The Kingdom rush games are all pretty good - I think there are 3 or 4 of them now.
Orcs Must Die is all right - it is 3D and plays more like a MMO game.
Dungeon Defenders was the ultimate Tower Defense MMO - plays kind of like Orcs Must Die, but multiplayer. The newer Dungeon Defenders game isn't as good as the one that were out 10 years ago.

Some of the best tower defense games were custom Starcraft and Warcraft III maps.

Dungeon of the Endless

it's not pure tower defence, it's just a part of the gameplay. plays like a rogue-like RPG where you open doors and each opened door has a chance of spawning a wave that you need to take out.

Adventure time TD is awesome and free.

Legend of Towercraft is also very good and free.

Now this is my type of topic.

I'm a freak for good traditional tower defense (birdseye view, emphasis on towers instead of a hero character, for the most part has a predetermined path which has a beginning and end).

In my search for the best power defense games here is what I've found to be the best:

• Kingdom Rush series (Frontier and original are the best but overall the series is one of the best Tower defense games that exist)
• Bloons TD5 (variety is good but like you said you can beat most levels with the same strats)
• Dungeon Warfare 1/2 (I'm really surprised no one ever seems to know this one because it's tied with Kingdom Rush for my favorite TD of all time; this one focuses on traps and physics)
• Fieldrunners 2 (it strays from the traditional formula sometimes but it's still a solid TD game)
• Cursed Treasure 2 (had the potential to be one of my favorite Tower defense games of all time but it f**** itself over in the final area because it was originally built on microtransactions and nickel and diming mobile users for mana items. Otherwise amazing TD though).

there's also Sanctum 1 and 2

x-morph defense is a fun campaign, but it doesn't really lend itself to replayability. absolutely fantastic boss battles

creeper defense 3 isn't traditional lane tower defense but its still one of my favorite games

If its a one time purchase I will give it a shot.

I recall playing this really good one on Steam that was about a librarian who gets a bunch of heroes to help her fight off waves of undead or something. Let me see if I can find it again.

Edit: It's called 'Defenders Quest'. Look it up.

Yeah they're one time purchases. The wife bought it for both mobile and steam. The trade-off is that the mobile version is much cheaper.

I liked that one a lot.

It had great mechanics but the story and art was kind of ass.

It's really a shame that the sequel may or may not come out. The developer announced it almost immediately after releasing the first game and even started taking pre-orders for it.
It's been like eight or nine years and the sequel is still nowhere in sight.

Every kingdom rush is worth the money, and buying one hero makes the game that much more fun.
